I am about to change strings on my mullen for the first time. I bought a set of Live steel Nickels and I am anxious to put them on. One question I have is will my half stop feel on string 2 still be there when I restring or will I have to adjust it again.
Im thinking it will be there but will be out of tune. I am just not able to understand the instructions on how to tune that half stop without someone showing me in person. If I don't adjust the half stop, will I still be able to tune the whole tone change without it? Jeff...Of course you can, Just lower the 2nd string with whatever Knee lever you are using, and tune the "full" lower on the end plate, while keeping your knee lowered. Be nice if someone could show you the half step. I have a Sho-Bud and Carter Universals. The Sho-Bud works the way I told you, and I do know how to get the half lower, but my Carter has a "special to me" double lower made by a good friend of mine in U.K. Richard Burton. The half/full lower is right by the back Apron, and is soooooo easy to do with an adjustable spring at your finger tips to adjust the "feel" for any individual player, and there is no overshoot on the half lower.

I believe the Mullen uses the "feel stop" of the 9th string lower, instead of the mechanical half stop.
You shouldn't have to ADJUST it, but you may need to retune it.
Tune the open notes
Tune the 2nd string C# with the nylon nut on the 2nd string.
Tune the D of the 2nd string with the nylon nut on the NINTH string.
Tune the C# of the 9th string with the screw in the block behind the changer.
If you change gauges (unlikely, since very few sets use anything other than .015 and .034), you might have to change bellcrank slots. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

the live steels seem to require slightly less travel than some other brands...so there may be an issue with where the 9th pull hits the 2nd....and one is wound and one plain...but you may be lucky and it will all just work... _________________ https://www.lostsailorspdx.com

If your Mullen has split-tuning screws in the back of the changer, which it will have if it's a G2 or Royal Precision model, then Lane's tuning advice is spot on |

If you have any issues drop me an email. You do not have the split screws, so don't let that get you confused. sales@mullenguitars.com |

Thanks Mike! I was just about to say...I didn't think Royal Precisions had tunable splits.
Thanks everyone else. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 , Lil Izzy Buffer, Goodrich 120 volume pedal, Boss DD-7, Peterson Strobo flip, Peavey Nashville 112 |

Lane, I've got a Mullen with the set screw above the changer. The directions say it can be used to fine tune the 9th string (after the 2nd string half stop is in tune). It looks like the screw will only sharpen the note, so it works fine if your 9th string is flat. On my guitar, after I tune the 2nd string half stop, I'm a little sharp. So I can't really utilize the set screw to fine tune string 9. Is it supposed to be that string 9 is always flat after the half stop is tuned? Thanks |

It usually DOES come up flat if you use a .015 and a .034
If you use other gauges it will throw things off.
Or you could move the 9th string rod to a slot farther out on the bellcrank _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
