Here is a fun one I thought I'd share, a fancy 10 string version of my Cub model, a Super Cub. Four more stings meant a total redraw, remake, and redesign and I'm very happy with how the scaled up version turned out. It was important to me to keep the flowing compact look and feel of the original and not have it turn into some sort of out of place fat looking version.
Some basic specs
22.5" scale
Curly maple body
hand dyed burst finish
Vintage Vibe pickup
.

Tom Yet another Master Piece.
I've followed your progress from the Beginning with great pleasure.
Can you elaborate on the Bridge and Nut System? It is a departure from the Tubes.
Are you milling Angle - 6061 T ?

So fine. I love the subtlety of the burst. It does not compete with the figuring.
Are the frets inlaid or overlaid?
Beautiful, Tom. |

It's obvious you love what you do, Tom. That's a beautiful piece of lumber. You're making it very difficult to keep my mind focused on my current pending acquisition, what with Lollar's horse shoes being made available again, and you turning out these beauties...how does one expect to stay married? _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

HI TOM
This Is A Fantastic Looking Guitar. I'll Bet It Plays & Sounds As Good As It Looks.
IMO White Position Markers Would Be More Appropriate. ???

Thanks everyone! I'm lucky to have been given the opportunity to bring some real fun instruments to life. I get to play with some of natures best and do something that I truly enjoy. I can only hope that my instruments bring much joy and many smiles for years to come.

Yes, the nut and bridge were milled from .188" structural 6061 T6 stock. The rear tone bar string retainer is made from .5" x .375" 6061 T6 bar stock and keeping with the theme, the etched headstock logo is also 6061.

Thanks. It was a design element that I'd long envisioned when the Cub was just an idea rattling around in my head. I think partially inspired by the big / wide fretboard on Gibsons Ultratone.

I am very happy with how the burst / shading turned out. Its a bit more work / hassle to do the shading by hand applying the dye, but the payoff is certainly worth it. Not that you can't get great results spraying toner coats, but I wanted the blend to be more organic and avoid hard line transition zones. Sometimes less is more.
The fret markers are inlayed into the body about an 1/8" deep. They are a 3 ply sandwich of .030" black fiber and .016" aluminum.

LoL .. I'll stay out of the relationship advice business, but will say that its a great time for steel players with all of the fantastic builders and pickup choices we have.
On those Lollar Horseshoes, they really are all that and a bag of chips.

There are lots of great possibilities and options. I had free rein when deciding on the inlay and considered many different options. In the end I went for something that was fairly simple, but with fine detail so as not to overpower any one of the other design elements. _________________ Some misc pics of my hand crafted steels

How does the string-spacing compare with a typical pedal steel?

I am your new best friend! I can bring in the paper, change strings around the house etc. And I have my wallpaper for October! I am a little concerned about this drift towards "anti-fat hate speech" of yours however - you may lose a great deal of support around these parts. Even if it's not too many people, it carries a great deal of weight, IFYKWIM. |

So simple, beautiful; a vision perfectly executed. For my taste, this smokes so many fancy axes I've seen with inlaid dragons and other foo foo touches. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Tom's photos are wonderful but don't/can't do justice to the beauty of Super Cub in reality.
Thanks again Tom. |
