Does the tension of strings matter on the Encore ----because of its construction build , or is it built to withstand for example : .026 ; .030 ; .034 ; .038 without too much strain on the mechanism ? Those of you who have ENCORES what grades of strings do you all feel comfortable with . THANKING EVERYONE WHO IS HAPPY T ANSWER THIS REQUEST . JAMES TAYLOR SCOTLAND |

James go with gauges that Doug fitted at build.Remember if you change gauge you will have to readjust pedal/,levers tuning. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

Hi James,
I use GHS Boomers GB-E9 Roundwound strings on my encore. The standard set are very close to what Doug recommends but I checked with him just in case. They seem fine to me, they are reasonably priced and available on this side of the pond.
Having said that, I have a set of Live Steel Strings (E9 Standard Stainless Steel Set) ready to try at my next string change. This set has a .022 plain 6th string which I'm hoping will help with the slight detuning I get on that string.
I'll keep you updated with the results. _________________ Mullen Royal Precision SD10, 2002 Fender Telecaster, Alden Mandocaster, Boss Katana 100-212, Stage One V/P, Tom Bradshaw Resonator Pedal. Wampler Paisley Drive, Wampler Ego Compressor, Boss Super Chorus, Simble Overdrive. |

If you still have the owner's manual that Doug sends out with the steel, then the guages he recommends should be in there. |

Thank you Steve, I had a look on Doug's web site and the gauges are the same as I quoted earlier . However Doug gave me an email stipulating the same as you have done Steve. I unloaded my case up in the garret and all the paraphernalia is there and unfortunately it is a steep climb and I do not wish to be rescued from there, the grandchildren would not be happy . I dragged my bucket out for the bin men today- along with my neighbours- only to discover I was five days too early!!!!!! A SHOCKING example of loosing my grip on this earthly world of ours. I thank you all for your kindness and continued support you are a great bunch of lads ,every best wish. JAMES TAYLOR SCOTLAND |

A .020 plain is on my Encore atm. I would like to use a wound string but lowering the 6th string a whole tone with a wound string is hard as the lever travel required to accomplish the pull is quite long. I thought the .022 plain might be a good compromise. _________________ Mullen Royal Precision SD10, 2002 Fender Telecaster, Alden Mandocaster, Boss Katana 100-212, Stage One V/P, Tom Bradshaw Resonator Pedal.
