As many of you likely already know the historic RCA studio A faces an uncertain future with one possibility being demolition. I just wanted to pass along that there is a website devoted to saving it from demolition and from this website you can sign a petition in favor of saving the historic structure. I ran across the site and just wanted to pass it along. Being a fan of old country music I really hope something can be done to preserve the old RCA studio. http://www.savestudioa.com/

Your local Nashville City/County & State are changing things by these new cosmetic politicians just like all cities across these here USA that was once called America the Union. History of Artist/Music & Musicians of who's Historical birth place means nothing to this new world of legalize blackmail paper pusher crooks. Change! Who gave us that " change " title?. Out side of killing the spirit of this nation & others for big money is nothing new to the new old way of life in the hand me down combination folks. The King of the Steel Guitar Big E who is the every day common man that is looked a pond & respected for being this title is Mr. Ralph Mooney and so many others that fill his shoes of their own rights. So,RCA Studio A can't make money from people who don't care about it in the first place. God Help us all cause we are all to far gone off track by to many high prices taking us down thanks to the Cities/County & States of this USA Union even in our every day Music Business Industry neighborhood Indie work shop of life. Put Up a Parking Lot......You'd think old Ben Folds with all of his money from those hits, would've bought that building years ago. After all, it's been for sale for over 20yrs.

There seems to be quite a few people showing strong interest in preserving it somehow. I read where Jamey Johnson who actually has an office in the building is fighting this.

It's pretty likely it's going to be torn down soon at this point unless some last-minute saviour with deep pockets appears. Too bad; it's not only got a lot of history but it's a great room, the kind that they're not really building these days.

The New York Times had a story on this the other day, and got it pretty much right in my opinion. Nashville is really a boom town at the moment, in ways that are only partially connected to music. For many of us who have lived here a long time there's both good and bad in that.

Although I sympathize with the collective point of view here, it's difficult to argue with Harold Bradley's logic when he states, "Certainly, there are old studio spaces that, in our imaginations, ring with sonic magic; but in truth, it’s not the room; it’s the music.”

It was Harold's building...but this statement makes me wonder...did he say this to the RCA people before they leased it from him?

They probably paid for the building several times over...

I don't think he probably told them"you know, you could put up a Quonset hut and..."

As of right now it looks like last-minute buyers have stepped in to save Studio A from demolition, though it's not a done deal.

From the Tennessean newspaper:

"Bravo Development announced Friday that it has finalized a contract to sell the RCA Studio A building to an entity called AMT Trust for $5.6 million, a deal that likely saves the recording studio and tables plans to convert the property into luxury condominiums.

The deal is merely under contract and not finalized"

Sept 16, 1957, I came to this studio to see Chet Atkins. He took me down the street to a little diner and bought me coffee. He also invited me back to witness a dub session with a local bro/sis act hoping to get a contract. Didn't work out for them but I got to see some great studion musician on the session; Buddy Harmon, Grady Martin, Floyd Cramer, Bill Black, etc. After the session, Chet invited me back to his office and got to listen to an unreleased tune called, "Hidden Charm". He played me a few tunes on His, "no longer used" D'Angelico guitar as he was now using the CA model Gretsch guitars. It was a grand experience for this California lad. Now, there's a youtube video of a Tribute to Chet Atkins that took place in the old studio put on by Gretsch.

...the guy who bought it...

"We’ve learned a lot about preservation and we’ve learned about why places matter," Preston said. "I’ve heard certain people quoted in the newspaper that the place doesn’t matter, that it’s the music and music can be made anywhere. I really don’t agree with that. I do think places matter. If places didn’t matter, the 12 to 15 million people who come to Nashville every year might as well go to Las Vegas."

I was really glad to see someone step in and save it. Hopefully the buyer has good intentions for the place
