I came across this PSG on eBay and thought that it seems too early for a Fender PSG.

What do my fellow Forum think?

I know that I am not an expert on Fender PSG's.

That model was introduced in 1957, so either the seller is reading the date codes on the pots wrong or the pots were replaced with older pots at some point.

I know to check for a date under the tuning pans.

But with Fender guitars I figure they just grabbed whatever was on top at the time they were doing an assembly. So I do not think that date of the pots is a good indicator of the exact year.

I know of a Telecaster with 1966 dated pots that was a 1969 or 1970 (the owner purchased it new).

The pedals would be a pretty accurate dating clue, but you're right...the Fender pedal steels didn't even exist until 1955, and none were sold until 1957. Winking

Anyhow, the black textured paint featured on this one puts it's build likely in 1960s timeframe.

Sometimes a handwritten 7 can look like a 2.

Fender bought a huge supply of pots in 1966 and used them for several years. My '68 telecaster has '66 pots, original to the guitar.
