Rethinking my "out front" sound. I am cranking up the treble an cutting the lows. I have not cranked up the reverb yet but one step at a time.
The more I listen to him on Utube with Amber Digby the more I like it. Gosh only took 42 years. _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

7+ years ago I got a Tubefex from Tony Rankin in which he had a setting to try to emulate Dickey's signature tone. As I was checking out and listening to the various settings on this unit, I realized immediately how much I was drawn to that one. It rapidly became my standard go-to sound for pretty much any slow-medium tempo country tunes on E9, and I still use it today - either using the Tubefex or just the general EQ/reverb/delay approach on a Peavey or old Fender amp. I wrote a post back then on the Tubefex settings here - http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=120157
I remember the first time I became aware of exactly who was playing on some of his signature recordings - they always stood up the hairs on the back of my neck. |

Dave,
I am not surprised that you stuck with that setting. It was sure my favorite by a mile. I kind of miss that thing!

Such a full , sweet , tone. His work with Justin is great. When he would play strings 3,5,and 8 it really knocked me out. His tone on anything he recorded was to die for. Sweet highs, never shrill , just enough bass, plenty of reverb without sounding overboard.
Really Classic steel tone. |
