Hi all, my name is Phil Baker, I am 37y/o steel player from down under...
Like my father,I first took up the steel from my Grandmother(Edna Baker)at the age of ten, following some years of practise, busking and street performing on the family dobro, as a teenager I was helped onto the pedal steel by my father (Kenny Baker) who at the time was playing his Emmons D10 fatback and went on to purchase a second Sho-Bud D10 which I then kept and played for years,
I was very fortunate to grow up in a home that warmed the living room walls in the evenings with such L.Ps of Buddy, Lloyd and Doug and all the greats.
Going to Dad's live shows were always a highlight even as our paths matured and crossed in later years now including my own shows and gigs.

Even though through different times of my life, now a proud father myself with three beautiful children (Jessica8 Jake6 Emily4) playing has come and gone, and having the last couple of years away from the fret boards I relise what a family institute the steel has been for me educated from my father,

On Friday night I played my first show (in about 2 years)at the local golf club, I have owned my Emmons pp D10 since 2010 (purchased from Tommy Cass)
I had previously advertised this amazing guitar for sale and thankfully never sold it...
Friday night reminded me of how much I still enjoy the steel and surrounded by my family, my wife (Sabrina) and children, the steel is still a big part of my life.
As my upbringing I find myself warming my own walls of the dining room in the evenings with Buddy Emmons tracks, whether or not my own children take up the steel interest it doesn't really matter, they now it as Daddys music and they enjoy it with me as I do with my Dad....
Happy Fathers Day Dad and thank you ...
I have posted some picys below from the photo album,
