Since I don`t have a chance to try one before buying I`d like to ask a few questions about the Earthquaker reverb/delay pedal.
Anyone who has one or has tried one, feel free to answer.
The demos I`ve seen on You Tube are mostly ambient and Floydian stuff.
Can the pedal do a good " a little spring and a slap" stuff too?
Is the decay of the reverb adjustable or just the amount in the mix? If the size is fixed is it a hall or what?
Do you find it easy to adjust it on the fly for different types of songs?
Thanks in advance,

It's definitely for big, long, lush sounds. The reverb is fixed at a long setting. The delay time and repeats are very adjustable though. You can never get it to be a short, tight sound since the reverb is long and big. You can turn down the reverb and shorten the delay for songs that don't want much long decay, but it's really not ideal for that. So much of what I do is pretty wet and long-ish, so it really serves me well. The sound quality is great.

I've been gigging a lot with it recently. Really love it. I like it better than my RV-3. Sounds better and easier to turn the delay on and off. I touch just one knob. When I want more features, I use my HoF reverb, but the E-quaker really gets the job done on basic gigs. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

THEY... describe the verb as dark plate..
I just got one and decay is long but the trade off for me is the ease of adjustment. Plus the sound quality is very good. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

Definitely. I make it work for whatever I need. But for those really wanting a tight, 1.2-1.7 second reverb, you can't get it there. I just turn down the reverb and shorten the delay time. I love the pedal's sound in general, and the analog dry path is a real winner for me.

Thanks guys,
I usually like an approx. 2.4 decay reverb and mix it real low, along with a 200-250 ms delay.
Is the Dispatch Master`s decay in the 2.0-2.5 range, maybe? _________________ Olli Haavisto

My guess is that it's in the 2.6-3 second range. A bit long, but not real long.

Thanks again,
I decided to try a Z-Cat Reverb/Delay. It`s handmade in Latvia, just across the pond here.... The reverb is a "medium size hall". Good price.
We`ll see.....

Just saw this. I usually like a plate style reverb with a long decay. It totally works for me. I always set the repeats at zero. I'm not a big spring reverb fan. Actually never been a reverb fan until this pedal (thanks, Brad). Love the analog dry path, it makes all the difference in the world for digital effects.
I love this pedal. It drastically simplifies my life. |

Me too. My pedal board is now stripped down to just an A/B/C box, an Earth Drive, the Quaker reverb and a tuner. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

I bought and tried a dispatch master. Feature wise it had everything I was looking for. I used it and was not happy with the sound. There is an subtle oscillation or slight chorusing and shimmer at the reverb tail... which while nice for some applications, is not something I want all the time. Drove me nuts. I could not dial it out...I called the wonderful folks who make it, and was informed that it was designed in. I returned it with regrets, but I just don't want chorusing in my reverb. Man if the unit was a clean reverb/delay I'd be all over it. still looking for a great clean Rev/delay stomp box...have not found the right one yet. _________________ Steel Guitar Services:

To each their own, of course.
For me, I love simplicity.
This works.
Real well.

Hey John,
I know what you are talking about. I don't use reverb a lot, but when I do, I like that touch of shimmery, 'Bill Frisell-ish' tail. Not for everybody, but it works for me. |

John,
I got the Z-Cat Delay/Reverb today. So far it seems to be just what I was looking for:
Basic reverb and delay for the basic steel sounds. Nothing fancy really, just a medium hall reverb and a good sounding delay. The dry signal remains analog throughout, effects mixed in.
This one is for the country gigs where nothing else is needed and the board with a bunch of delays, compressors, autowahs and overdrives etc. can stay home.
One mxr-size box and that`s it.
I`ll try to record a few samples later and post them.... _________________ Olli Haavisto

Played a six song overdub session today with just my amp and the Z-Cat.
I was very pleased with the tone I got, If I may say so myself. The guitar used was an MSA Legend with an Alumitone pup.
This pedal will stay in the loop of my amp permanently. _________________ Olli Haavisto

This pedal is amazing. To my ears, it does a tiny bit of shimmer and modulation that waits to kick in and just adds sooo much to the sound but in a subtle way. I set the delay for a slapback sound and the reverb on 3/4, and then mix according to the room and song. If I want to add ambience like a keyboard instead of a traditional steel sound, I dial the repeats up and the mix and reverb wide open - very cool spacey sounds. All of this in a compact pedal. Just wish it ran on batteries. _________________ '02 Carter S-12 uni

Tried both. The Zcat was much quieter and easier to dial in the desired sound. The Dispatch Master went back to the store. Just my experience. |

Olli, a question: For overdubs , wouldn't you lay down the tracks dry and then add the reverb during mix-down with a high-end plug-in? _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Tom,
I`ve done lots of them that way too. Lately the producers have been happy to take what I give them., "my sound". And sometimes that is just basic stuff from stompboxes. _________________ Olli Haavisto
