I keep a Visual Sound Route 808 overdrive on my pedal steel pedal board, great unit, with a switch that boosts low end and really makes the sound big and fat. Someone grab that!

Is that DeArmond pedal a volume pedal or volume/tone?

Yes. I borrowed 5 mainstream OD pedals from a music store, took 'em home, carefully tested them all...this was the winner for a deep, rich sound. All others were thinner, didn't work as well with my extended E9 Mullen, Bill Lawrence 912 humbucker pickup.
