I recently got a chance to view the film of Buddy Emmons induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Three steel players were demonstrating some of the inventions, and techniques, Buddy developed for the instrument. The players were Tommy White, Buck Reid, and Dan Dougmore. There were two guitars used, Buck Reid's red JCH, and Dan Dougmore's Sho Bud. I knew both Buck and Dan used the pedals I make. It brought everything home to me to actually see them on the screen, being used to honor one of my all time hero's Buddy Emmons. Without the pedal steel guitar, my life would not be what it is today. I love the pedal steel guitar and those who play the instrument.

That was a fantastic day, honoring Buddy's career with some great playing and stories. This has been discussed in several previous threads, and here's a link to a video of the whole event (I was very fortunate to have been there).

Unfortunately this is not the same thing as induction into the actual Country Music Hall of Fame, which is voted on by the CMA (more an of industry/trade organization). The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum that hosted this tribute displays the plaques of the Hall of Fame members; it is a more historically oriented organization but it has no say in who gets inducted. So, Buddy is not actually a member of the Hall of Fame (yet) though he is clearly deserving and I'm guessing he will be before too long. They induct an instrumentalist every few years and so far it includes Chet Atkins, Charlie McCoy, Hargus "Pig" Robbins and a few others.

Pete, thanks for setting the record straight. I suppose because it was held in the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum--there were Country Music Hall of fame signs everywhere. I suppose I am about half way stupid sometimes,I just assumed Buddy was inducted into the Hall of fame. I think Buddy is everyone's hero, and if any musician should be put in the Hall of Fame, it should be Buddy. The world of steel guitar has not been the same since Buddy retired in 2007. Everyone loves Buddy and misses him.

Keith I agree with you that Buddy ought to be in there. I always said that Buddy,Lloyd,Jimmy Day, and Pete Drake should be in there. There are other steel players but to me those four helped shape the sound of country music.
