I just discovered a pretty inexpensive and accessible gig bag for a lap steel. A local music store can't get the Kala UBass ukelele any more, but has the bags for $30.00. The bag fits several lap steels very well, has two exterior zippered pockets and shoulder straps. Just thought some of the rest of you might want to give it a try. Perhaps one of your local shops have the same bag available if they deal in Kala ukes.

That's a good tip james.

My solution was to buy a 3/4 size electric guitar bag and that has been my transport for my few steels that have not got a case. It does require some extra padding if the body is particulalry slim though.

I can also recommend K&M violin stands for stage and home.

You can try rifle bags, they usually have paddings and pockets.
