Which convention/show is the biggest bang for the buck--Dallas or St. Louis? _________________ GFI Ultra SD-10; Nashville 112; Hilton pedal, George L Cables; Pearse bar; Live Stings;Walker seat by Billy Knowles. |

First, let me say that I have never been to the St. Louis show. I did go to Dallas about three years ago and I was amazed and what a great convention it was.
There were many rooms where steel guitar builders had their products on display and artists were performing
most of the time. On the main stage in the big room, artists appeared from about 10:00 in the morning long into the night. The musicians in the back up band were excellent and the sound volume was good, not over powering. In a room just outside the big hall, several vendors were set up selling everything related to steel guitar. There were more vendors around the sides and back of the big hall.
All in all, it was a great event and I hope to go again soon. You cannot go wrong with the Dallas show. |

Unfair comparison. Both are excellent. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Telonics TCA-500, Webb 614-E, |

I agree COMPLETELY with Ken Byng!! It's like asking, which is better, Mullen or Zum (or any other make). Personnel choice! |

This question comes up from time to time and it cannot be answered. I've been to both several times and they are very similar. I like Dallas because it's closer to Houston. The performers are similar as are the vendors. I'd go to the one that's closet to home, unless there is a particular performer you want to see. However, beware of the super stars, they often cancel just before show time. They can't help it, I'm told, it's the pressures of their schedules. |

Do both if you can. I agree with the others that it is two different monsters. Either one you choose will reap huge benefits.
I have been to both...and both are great.
If you go to St Louis, it will be the first year at the new location. Im excited about being at St Louis this year. _________________ Traveler, Peddler and Extreme life lover. Giving up is not an option. |

I am looking forward to the convention in St. Louis next month and meeting some of the guys with whom I have "talked" to on this forum. One man in particular, bOb Lee, I would like to personally thank him for the truly outstanding work he has done making this forum possible. I'd agree that the formats of the two shows are similar, but would disagree that the list of performers are similar. Whilst there are more than a few players that seem to make the rounds of ALL the shows, the TSGA Jamboree does feature more players from our state and region than does the St. Louis show, without sacrificing any quality since the players in TX are of world-class quality as well. Likewise, the SWSGA show in Phoenix, arguably the 3rd largest show, has a roster than includes more AZ and CA players, a fact that I enjoy very much.
The player selection is frequently regionally based. For example, the NTSGA Super Duper Jam, a 2-day event, has a roster of players mostly from the states surrounding TN, though the late Bobby Bowman, Ronnie Symank, and myself have represented TX to great acceptance and appreciation.
There are other comparisons and dis-similarities to be made, but it's a given that both shows... TSGA Jamboree and ISGC... are great and worthy of a steel fan's attention. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

You're welcome, Gary.
Sorry to say I don't have a budget for travel this year. Things are pretty tight around here. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
