Man-o-man steelers are modifying N112's like crazy. Speakers, chips, reverb cans. This is what keeps the economy going and going and going.
Having said all of that, these mods are a definite upgrade to an already good basic amp. I have had 3, put 1203-4 BW speakers in them and chips, they sounded terrific.
BW guys are BW guys and JBL (or JBL sounding) guys follow suit. All are good, just like tube guys or not.
I have some new players who already are hearing ways to improve their sound, might be amps, pickups, pedals, chords. I tell them this is a never ending sickness, just look at the classifieds here on the forum.
The more you listen to other steelers, on record or live, the more one tends to question the sound they are getting and wanting to get the "other" sound. We are all guilty and have all chased it for 40 years or more. No reason to think a newbie will be any different.
Oh what fun we have chasing it. To me I love the chase, be it my gear or helping others with theirs. Now back to that pesky tab.

PS: after 40 years of Peavey amps I have settled on the Walker Stereo Steel, just me, for now. _________________ '70 D10 Black fatback Emmons PP, Hilton VP, BJS bars, Boss GE-7 for Dobro effect, Zoom MS50G, Stereo Steel amp, Telonics 15” speaker.

MPO if these amps were just hitting the market today with these mods already in them there would be A LOT of rave reviews on them even more so than when they first came out 10-11 yrs ago. I had three during their first year of hitting the maket, i eventually sold 2 to try out other amps, kept my very first one and glad i did. Now im back up to 2.
Another PO is the reverb pan, i saw that guys were buying the MOD brand so i had to have one, when i went to order one from amplified parts they were sold out so i bought an accutronics, then back ordered the MOD, now i dont witch one i like best but im catering towards the accutronics, maybe they improved them i dont know but they sound better than the original that was in it.
I am a tone junkie and love tube amps but dont have the money to keep trying out different amps but i can afford most of the mods to what i have.
Im thankful for the forum to keep us informed of the lastest and greatest and everybodys opinion even tho it can get expensive _________________ Rittenberry SD10, 2 nashville 112s with telonics speaker, behringer EPQ450 power amp, 705 pups, Telonics FP-100, live steel strings, mogami cords, wet reverb |

I have to tell ya..
We all went to these little amps cause we just can't carry the big heavy chit' anymore and are willing to compromise ..
Thing is ..it's not a compromise at all these little Nashville 112's sound pretty darn good after you pull it apart cut the the top of the baffle board round that covering up 20% of the speaker just to hold the peavey logo and peel off the silver strip along the bottom and the one below the knobs that tell you for a 3rd time where the volume is drop a few fox chips in it and a mod reverb tank and a telonics speaker...it sounds good enough for what ever it is your trying to get done ..even the girl next door ..
And if you think that ain't enough try putting a big thick chunk of foam rubber in the back of the amp and see how that cleans up your sound . |
