Here is a short biography of the players at the Denver Steel Guitar Show. http://lannies.com/?p=22770
Show starts at 1 and goes until 8PM.
Chuck

Daniel Jones has been playing pedal steel since the early 70s in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the Denver area, like Chuck Lettes he has played with Lannie Garrett, and the Always Patsy Cline theater production. Daniel has always enjoyed exploring non-traditional styles for pedal steel, an interest he continues in the jazz direction with his quartet, Standard Deviations.
Chris Kennison is a Colorado Native and lives in Ft. Collins CO. He currently performs with the Barleen's Arizona Opry as their utility string player. Chris plays pedal steel, Dobro and guitar and a number of other strings, and is also a big fan of Hawaiian Steel. He is on the Board of Directors of the (HSGA) Hawaiian Steel Guitar Assoc. and performs with his local Hawaiian band Book 'em Danno. The HSGA annual mainland steel festival will be held this year in Ft. Collins OCT 23,24,25 - come hear Chris and many other top steel players and get your dose of Aloha! Check out www.hsga.org for details.
Chuck Lettes is a featured writer for several steel guitar magazines, teacher and has performed with many touring artists from Doug Kershaw to Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. He is the longtime sideman in Lannie Garrett's Patsy DeCline Show and is a recent inductee into the Nebraska Country Music Hall of Fame.
Bob Case has been playing steel guitar in bands since the early 1970’s. He has worked with Billy Spears, Dusty Drapes and the Dusters, Lynn Morris, Junior Brown and Doug Kershaw among others. He is currently playing with the Jim Hyatt Band and at annual steel guitar shows.
George Sypert started learning to play pedal steel in 1964 in North Africa at Wheelus Air Force Base. He started with a Fender 400 with 4 pedals and is still learning to play pedal steel in 2014.
Carl Johnson lives in Cortez.CO and has been playing steel in the Four Corners area for about 40 yrs. Carl is currently playing with an all instrumental band called "The Redneck Synfuny."
George Sypert started trying to learn to play pedal steel in 1964 in North Africa at Wheelus Air Force Base. He started with a Fender 400 with 4 pedals and is still trying to learn to play pedal steel in 2014. George’s favorite steel is the Emmons push/pull through a Peavey Session 400 or LTD.
Tom Broderick has been in the Denver, Colorado area for the past twenty five years. Playing guitar and pedal steel guitar, Tom has been involved with theatre productions like “Always – Patsy Cline” show at the Garner Galleria Theater and played several seasons with Lannie Garrett’s “Patsy DeCline Show”. He has also worked with Wyoming’s premier singer / song writer Michael Hurwitz for the nearly 40 years as one of the “Aimless Drifters” and has performed on his CD projects, live radio programs, blues festivals, and a filming for Public Broadcast System. He continues to play with a number of local bands including Carlos Washington and the Steel Horse Band, First Take, and Soularus. Tom incorporates musical styles from country, blues, classic rock and fusion formats to create a unique sound all his own. In 2008 Tom released his own CD entitled “Inside-Out” featuring his original compositions.
Jeff Rady is from Denver, Colorado and has been on the Colorado Music Scene for 16 years, not only as pedal steel player, but as a guitarist, guitar instructor at Swallow Hill, and an arranger. Jeff has been in countless bands with styles ranging from big band jazz to alt. country. As a member of many Colorado staples like CJP and The Burning Angels, Strange Americans, and now Patrick Dethlefs, he uses his taste and sensitivity as a musician to lift up any ensemble he joins.
Mike Morrison has been passionate about the pedal steel guitar for 30 years. "Pedal steel guitars are ingenious, versatile and produce the most beautiful sound known to man.” In the 1980s Morrison played traditional steel guitar with Country Comfort and country rock with Cat's Paw. In the 1990s and 2000s he played rock & roll and alternative pedal steel with The Griffins, Bigfoot and The Prehistoric Dogs, and Metalbillies. Mike is currently involved in an original rock and roll project with Gingerslap, but most of his performances are with The Bakersfield Band playing and singing country and honky tonk classics.
John Macy is a Denver based steel guitarist/producer/engineer who has worked on Gold, Platinum and Grammy winning records. Currently playing with Casey James Prestwood and the Burning Angels, his recording and touring credits include The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Gary Morris and Michael Martin Murphey. John currently owns and operates Macy Sound Studios in Denver.
Paul Carestia, a Colorado native, has been playing steel guitar since age 8. He would listen to the Grand Ole Opry and tell his parents "I want to play that steel guitar". By age 14 he was playing professionally. Now retired, he spends most of his time in Colorado and is currently performing with The Country Music Project based in Denver.
Howard “Happ” Palmer became a lifelong disciple of the pedal steel guitar in the early l970s. His love for country music and dance floors keeps him playing in honkytonks throughout Colorado. Howard currently plays pedal steel guitar and dobro for the Wild Road Band and Last Chance Texaco.

Very Special Guest:
Scotty (DeWitt Scott) - influenced by Jerry Byrd, Don Helms and Little Roy Wiggins. Scotty has written 8 instruction steel guitar books, as well as many instruction books on his Midland label. A member of the International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, he has hosted the annual Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis for over forty years. www.scottysmusic.com.

Backup Musicians
Lonesome Rolan has been poundin' piano in honky-tonks and road-houses throughout the Golden West for probably too long. He's one of the leading advocates and practitioners of the BRUTE FORCE SCHOOL OF MUSIC with his ham-handed piano stylings that can best be described as heavily-marbled, all-meat music. LoRo has had the pleasure of playin' piano with Chuck Lettes as far back as forty years and with Bob Case for nearly thirty two years. He regularly performs his solo NO RESTRICTIONS APPLY shows in Lafayette, Boulder, Denver, and beyond.
Lynn Phipps grew up in Southern California listening to Country radio as well as his parents’ collection of Country and Gospel recordings. He got his first guitar at age nine and began imitating some of these stars, soon developing a strong interest in the music of the Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys, Yardbirds etc. to Blues and R&B. These are the roots that have guided his professional lead guitar and vocal career over the last 40+ years.
"Slim" Jim Phillippe 54 years old has played drums in a work setting starting at 15 years old. Jim plays and has played multiple styles of music. Jim is currently working with two bands and do backup work when asked.
Jim Hyatt is originally from Ohio where he cut his teeth on bass as staff bassist for the WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling West Virginia after starting his career in a family band with his mom, dad and sister. Jim has been in Colorado for over 30 years performing in the Jim Hyatt Band. Jim now plays 17 instruments with steel guitar being one of his loves.
