Hey guy's I just picked up a load of old C'n W records for free at this store near me and this one was in the pile. I love the steel playing on it but like a lot of old records, the back-up players are not listed. Anybody out there know who was playing Steel on the LP Bottle Bottle by Jim Ed Brown? Also I just wanted to give props to Hal Rugg for his playing on Country Joe Macdonald's great record "Thinking About Woody Gutherie". Bought it on a lark and boy was it a good buy. Might not be country enough for some, but Hal sure does a great job!

Give it some more time. Maybe someone will see this and know the answer. Problem with those old recordings, they never listed the players.

Too bad you can't post an mp3 on youtube that we could listen to. I looked at the site Jerry mentioned. All the other songs listed for that album mentioned Pete Drake. Lloyd Green was mentioned on another. Listening to the song would give several people an idea of who played it. Pete and Lloyd don't sound anything alike.

I have the 45 of "Bottle, Bottle" and to me it doesn't sound like Pete Drake. It does sound more like Lloyd Green style.

Hey guys, I've been in touch with Corky Tittle, Jim Ed's Drummer for many years, about his album that contained "Pop a Top" and "Drinkin Champagne". It came out around 1968 and I would love to have a copy of it. I had it on tape years ago, and you know how that goes.
Can anyone help me find it?

| It came out in 67 so it wasn't Corwin. That puts it before Johnny Cox worked with him also. I would say Pete Drake. I can't figure out how one could tell if it was Pete by listening to All Things Must Pass. It is a totally different feel. |

Ray, that album is called "Jim Ed Brown - Bar-Rooms And Pop-A-Tops", and it's easily available on ebay, and on most of the internet record-service sites.
I don't know if that album was recorded later, but the original J.E.B. cut of "Drinking Champagne" is classic Pete Drake.

I just pulled out the record and I agree.
When I'm sure I'm right, I'm usually wrong though.  Whoever it was, I like it.
That said, Pete Drake did some really neat stuff on the Johnny Bush stuff on Stop records. (1968-1972) I think.

Yes, according to an Artist list I have , the original recording was done by Pet Drake.

Thanks guys. And as for All Tings Must Pass, stylistic change of music or not....you cannot hide musical personality. Pete Drake is Pete Drake, regardless of who he's playing for.....
