It's no secret that some of the early plastics used by Kluson Manufacturing Co. were unstable and had a tendency to self-destruct.
I recently obtained a BR-4 with plastic buttons that are serviceable at the moment, but are well on their way to oblivion.
Has anyone ever attempted to resurrect these buttons? A friend has suggested dipping the button end of the tuner in either cyanoacrylate or clear fingernail polish. I guess it would be worth a try, as a last resort to snipping the old ones off and installing new buttons.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had any success saving their original Kluson tuner buttons. |

I've done it on quite a few of my steels. I get a really thin cyanoacrylate glue from a local hobby shop and apply thin layers letting it soak in. Sometimes I sand lightly between coats. It works great. I've saved tuners that would have broken if you tried to turn them. _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

Thanks, Frank, for your encouraging response. I will give that a try. Really nothing to lose, as new buttons are always an option. |

I may have to try that on my National. They aren't quite falling apart yet, but they are on the way out.
Thanks! |
