I picked up a used MSA classic 10. I didn't come with a case so I had one custom made by red dirt cases (recommended). I can't figure out how to break it down. There are youtube videos on this, but the construction of mine seems to differ.
Specifically, I can't figure out how to unscrew the rods. On youtube, the show people detaching the rods. The rods on mine appear to be intended to stay attached at the top and flip into the body. I can't figure out how to unscrew them at the base, and I don't want to break anything. I have included a picture of the base of the rods. Thanks in advance!

The metal sleeve that is in the bottom of the picture is spring loaded, It can be pulled up nearly to the lock nut. This will allow the connector to be removed from the ball connector on the pedal. By the age of the guitar I would suggest oiling and sliding the sleeves till they move easily. Also number the pedal rods if not numbered, And put them back on the same pedal, They may not be the exact length. Be sure to hook the rods into the cross rod lever the same as now. If your steel has bolt and wing nut through the front leg pedal bar attachment, Make sure the front legs are marked or mark them so you put them back in the same holes on the body. Good Luck on the adventure of breaking down and reassembling your steel.
Gigged a 1974 MSA S10 2000-2005 it got easy after about a half dozen take down and reassembles.

Your rods are numbered near the hooked end. Hook the number 1 rod into the pedal 1 position (the number 1 pedal position is the one nearest the left front guitar leg, viewed from the player's side).
