| I stopped by the Emmons shop in Burlington today on a whim. Ron Jr. Was working on a couple of new guitars. One was a beautiful natural finish D-12 and the other black. I talked with Ron and "Nana" for a bit while picking up a new fretboard for my ST-12 P/P. Also got a couple shirts, hats and pedal board stickers. They were real nice folks and took their time to help me. Real glad I stopped by. |

Thanks for posting this, Justin. There's a lot of love for Emmons guitars out there (me included) and it's good to know they're still going strong.

That must have been a P/P D-12 they were building, right? I don't think they've ever made a D-12 LeGrande. I sure do like my black D-12 but I bet this one will sound great too!
I could use a couple new fretboards for mine, did they have more 12 string fretboards in stock? Are they colored, chrome, price? Pictures would be nice and you can PM or email the price if you prefer.

| Jim, that's a typo on my part. Both were D-10's. They had fretboards with colored atoms, both chrome and white lines. The chrome lined ones had some scratches from being handled over the years, so I went with white lines which were pretty much mint. The one I bought is a little bit longer scale than mine,but I'm going to stop by my local sign shop and get them to cut a bit off the first fret and I should be good to go. I'll inbox you the price. |

Okay thanks. I figured it was too good to be true. They haven't had 12 string fretboards for quite a while. |

| Justin: Don't cut the end off the fretboard. I got a new fretboard from Emmons a few years ago and thought it was the wrong scale however when I removed the old fretboard, I found it went up under the keyhead a bit. My guitar is a single 12 PP. Anyhow, hope this helps. Sincerely NM |

Jim, check your inbox. They do have 12 string fret boards. The new guitars were D-10's. |

Wow- that building is almost comical in its modesty. Amazing to think that is where Emmons guitars come from! Are they a CNC shop? These days, I can't imagine making steels without a CNC mill.

I don't know if they bought a CNC machine more recently, but they were there before CNC was developed.
I bought my first steel guitar from Ron Sr there one Sunday morning. In 1980.
Stands to reason if a Bridgeport (or whatever they've got) was adequate for making the first LeGrandes, it would be adequate for later use.

Being a machinist myself, and having a bridgeport clone and 2 other mills, I can certainly say that you can build whatever you want with a manual mill- especially if it is equipped with a digital readout.
But making lots of similar parts (ie changer parts) with a manual mill would be pretty tedious. At least it would for me, especially knowing that CNC is quite affordable these days.
Rudimentary cnc has been around since the 70s.
