Was going through some things I have,nt listened to in awhile. Put Franks [MODEL T] CD in the player,then remembered how GREAT that man played.In steel circles he's not know [should be] as well as some of the big guys such as Emmons,Day,Franklin,Helms,etc. If you are a fan of the old westcoast sound. CHECK him out you won't be sorry. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Ditto on Frank. I've picked some with Frank. I used to see him every now and then, but I haven't in several years. He repairs antique radios and he does some studio work. Frank is a super picker. Model T is one of my all time favorite steel instrumentals. He also does a great job on Take Me As I Am Or Let Me Go. He lives in Greenbrier, TN close to Nick Reed. He played a Fender. I sit down behind it and it was all crazy tunings and copedent, but he could really play it.  |

In the mid-70s, Frank Arnett played steel for Gene Davis at The Alamo, a nightclub in the Clairmont Bowl in San Diego. I believe it was a lengthy engagement for Frank; I know Gene Davis was there for at least a couple years.
I was given a copy of Frank's record, Model T. I recall being rather humbled, since he was so much better than me, yet I was taking his job. (The club wanted a younger band, and on that one score I had the best of Frank.) Frank was very professional with me despite the difficult circumstance. I even received a studio call from a producer that got my name from Frank after Frank left town.
Hope Frank is well and still picking that Fender.

I found MODEL T in a cutout bin about fifteen years ago for 99 cents, also Hank Garlands [JAZZ WINDS] for 99 cents,One of the best steel records,and the BEST jazz guitar recording of all time[just my opinion] Is that a deal or what ? YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

| Boy, I remember Frank Arnett... What an exciting player he was. Then of course there was Paul Sutherland..very exciting to listen to Paul back then. We also had guys like Dave Menefee (C6 monster)and Cosmic Ray just a monster! Now we have great players like Jerry Dawg and Ricky Schmidt... |

If I'm not mistaken, this fellow has had some health issues. I believe he's the same guy our local steelguitar icon plays on his radio show.

| I got aquainted with Frank through Bob Woods at Del City Music in OKC. I had the good forune of getting to visit with him quite a bit. His tuning was definately different!! A great player and a super guy!! |

Paul Sutherland, did you also work with Gene Davis?
Frank Arnett was also part of the band at the Nashville Nevada Club with Wynn Stewart, on the second shift with the group fronted by norm Owens.
when Mooney was "under the weather" Frank would play with Wynn, and then norm's band. what's that, like ten hours with breaks! |

I did not play with Gene Davis. I was in the Munds & Wood band that followed Gene Davis into the Alamo. I vaguely recall Gene Davis taking the stage a few times to sign a couple songs during the M&W days, but that was about it.

| I played harmonica and rhythm guitar with Frank in Oklahoma City in the 70's. There was quite a lot of studio work around - mostly gospel and jingles. I'd have a bunch of beer in my car and we'd slip out between songs or when somebody was fixing their part and partake. I'm playing harmonica on "Model T". He was one of a handful of session steelers in OKC then, including Doug Campbell. A great guy, a real individualist, and I remember his bright, beautiful Fender tone. He'd use a capo on his steel, like dobro players do, so he could do hammer-ons and pull-offs. Great to see his name pop up on the Forum...... |

Jim,that is something to be proud of.I had NEVER heard of him untill I bought that old LP for 99 cents,The reason I bought it was the picture of Frank and his guitar on the cover.Most of the time when you buy these cut outs they suck. Any way took it home put it on the turntable,then thought WOW,what the hell is this, Some of the HOTTEST steel pickin I had ever heard. You never know when you will find a jewel in a cutout bin, One other time I lucked up found for 99 cents [in my opinion] The BEST jazz guitar album of all time, Hank Garland's Jazz Winds. YOU BETCHA, DYK?BC.

LUKE,Yes I'm pretty sure that's Frank. He repaired CB radios I'm almost sure. If he was as good a repair man as he was a picker,then he was triple A. I'm glad I started this thread [just my opinion]But I don't think this man ever got the recognition he deserved. YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

I was introduced to Frank's CD by my old buddy above, John Daughtery. When I first heard it I thought, man oh man, where did this guy come from? Super picker.

Les, That's what I thought When I first heard him,My favorite is the Model T album because I LOVE the early West coast sound.BUT his playing of country classic's is just as good as it gets. check out his [COUNTRY STEEL] album. YOU BETCHA, DYK?BC.

Yep that's Frank. He is an expert electronics guy. He repaired an antique radio for me. I bought it at a flea market for $30. Frank got it working and looking good for another couple hundred and he say's it's worth $1000. It a rare one, built during WWII, or something like that. This was about 10 years ago. I listened to the Opry on it a few times. The radio still works great, but the Opry ????????
Every steel player should listen to Frank Arnett play. It's outstanding, and different, but very good. A lot like Mooney.

I have both Model T and Country Steel. Amazing recordings. Frank is pedal pumping West Coast Steel, through and through. Great stuff, and fun to listen too. You can tell he is a disciple of Ralph Mooney.

I got a call one day, from a friend said they were having a Jam and needed a singer. I went and Frank was on steel, first time I meet him, he was a gem to play with. I think I have some of that old tape some where. Always wondered where he was. I have one of his albums.
He was working the Clairmont Bowl at that time. |

| Sometime during the middle sixties I met and watched Frank play with Gene Davis at the "Starlight Club" in Lakewood, Ca. (across the street from the Blue Bajiou. Frank really played great and knocked me out. Sometimes you just have to be at the right place at the right time. Frank should have been as famous as other well know players during this era. |

Billy, That's what I always thought. I'm a little familar with steelers from the 40's50's 60's. But I had NEVER heard of Frank untill I bought that old LP. Sure glad I did.He impressed me more than some of the BIG names. YOU BETCHA, DYK?BC.
