Such a great guy and player! Thanks for inviting me to play several songs on your steel with the fabulous Tommy Hooker at Pearls Dance Hall in Fort Worth last Wednesday night. Gary is tops! All the guys were GREAT! See them if you get a chance.

Gary Carpenter is awesome. He's an awesome human being also.

He is one of those players that fly under the radar.

If anyone has any videos of Gary, please put them on here.

Steve- Thanks for this posting. It reminds me to be thankful to Steve Lamb and his list of Ft. Worth area players that he advised me to go and listen to and possibly get their prospective on the instrument (Jay Shultz, Cecil Johnson, Howard Gregory, Squeakey Jackson and Gary Carpenter)*I still have the list. This event occurred the day I purchased my Maverick and received my first lesson from Steve. I had at that time, not heard of the other players, but had heard Gary's name mentioned. Shortly thereafter I met Gary and he gave me a lesson. Over the last 30 plus years I've spent plenty of time trying to pick up licks from him and he has helped me a great deal not only through instruction and a fine guitar, but by opening lots of opportunities for me on the steel guitar. A big "thumbs ups" for Gary as a player and as an all around great guy! RP

Mark---how about Gary on steel, Tommy Hooker singing the Faron Young tune "Give A Lonely Heart A Home". And that's Jess Meadors (probably 19 y/o at the time) playing fiddle.

We'll be listening to Gary Sat night (31 May), playing with Landon Dodd at Pearls/Ft Worth.

Danny- a tone monster, the Rains! First time I met Gary, he was playing a single 12 Dekley, over the years a couple of all pull Emmons and also a Marlen. He's always sounded terrific? Guitar, volume pedal and amplifier! RP

Gary is one of those rare individuals who not only delivers perfect execution of intricate phrasings, but can explain every minute detail of what he is doing to where a layman has no trouble understanding it.
