I notice that when I play C6, the right hand palm rests on the back edge of the pickup and it occurred to me that the early lap steels were made with a bridge over the pickup, I suppose for that purpose; a hand rest. Does anyone think a similar bridge for pedal steels would be a help? How would it affect you palm-blocking? _________________ Mullen, G2, D10, Peavey Nashville 112, Roland Cube 80XL, DD3, Goodrich L10 VP. |

Nope. I think it would be a handicap. You can always move your hand up and down the neck to get whatever tone you want. A bridge like you mention, would put you hand (in my opinion) to far up the neck and unable to get a more trebly sound when wanted. It might affect your palm blocking, but you would have to try it out to know. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I once bought a bass that had a hand rest right between the two pickups. It had to come off for the very reason Richard describes. Different instrument but same principle. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Richard, you could just move your hand up the neck , leaving the bridge behind. to get the desired tone. |

What if you wanted a brighter tone? There is a reason the builders don't put one on. When I had my National triple 8 guitar, I took the pickup covers off because I didn't like my hand being so far up the neck. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
