OK, so I'm getting married in the spring, Don Williams notwithstanding.
Since both bride and groom are 50 and we've done this before, we want to keep it small and simple.
But I have 4 different bands that have said "I hope you'll have us play the wedding." Umm, a 5 piece band is kinda inconsistent with "small." But it does feel good to have so many folks think well of me.
I'm thinking of just using an MP3 player playlist, but how do you keep from annoying the folks who wanted to play?
A wedding playlist will likely include:
"Ballad of the Runaway Mare" (or was it horse? Don't tell Denise I've forgotten, she loves Lenny), Leonard Cohen via Jennifer Warnes
"Walk Through This World With Me" twice, once by the Seldom Scene and once by George (she loves Duffey whether it's Scene or Gentlemen, and ADORES both of the Jones Boys: George and Tom)
6 Days on the Road (Dudley and/or Green/Pride)
Truck Drivers' Queen, by Jimmy Martin (how cool is it that she likes this kinda stuff: loves Jimmy and George)
Gotta have some Harry, because she also loves Nilsson (can't decide which
It's all Over Now, Baby Blue (at least by Duffey, possibly also Bob, she loves Dylan)
Thinking of one of Dale Watson's love songs.
Open to suggestions, need 2-3 hours of stuff. She's not a huge jazz fan, and neither of us likes much hard rock.

I was considering your "advanced" ages but point taken.

Upon further consideration I remembered that I performed "She Belongs to Me" at my daughter's wedding. How about that one?

A little on the lighthearted side... the Cash/Carter duet "Darling Companion". You two could sing it together.

Actually the John Sebastian/Loving Spoonful version is on the list, and we'll sing Walk Through This World With Me.
The Carter and Cash version isn't nearly as purty.

I knew that Lane, but that's not a duet from the Spoonful.

Thanks, Dale!
I like that one, Jim. Trying to remember what bluegrass act did that a LOT in the 70s. Thinking Bob and Sonny.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_I_Told_You_Lately_That_I_Love_You%3F it's been done by everybody but Tom Jones. I love Charlie Waller's version. Great song.

Lane you are correct...I went looking for Hank Snow after I suggested it and saw that Jim Reeves and Marty Robbins, and like you everybody but Tom Jones...My Dad and his band did that song when I was but a wee lad, and they did a lot of Hank Snow stuff back then...that's maybe why I hear him in my head singing it...and yes Great old song.

Not to worry. I asked her "how many guitars is excessive?" Her answer: "If you actually play them instead of collect a room full of cased treasures, there's no upper limit."
She did strongly suggest that I sell the Evans when I bought the Twin, but the Evans hadn't even gotten turned on in six months, so it sounded reasonable.
And my birthday present was $100 in store credit at my local music store.

Sinatra: "I did it my way" and it's gonna be my way and I can have all toys I want forever!

Just kidding! Yesterday was my 45th wedding anniversary. So it's: Yes dear, anything you want dear, I won't buy another guitar without selling one first, etc........ Oh Well

Congratulations
