I was playing a rhythm track to La Golandrena (sp?) and the wife hollered out to me that to her, it sounded like the same progression as CAROLINA MOON. After I attempted to resolve this issue, my ear simply left me and I could no longer be objective.
What do you say about that?
Is she right or is she wrong? |

No, there may be a few similarities, but I would hardly call them the same. Carolina Moon, as I recall, repeatedly goes right from a IV to a IVm, and it also has a very prominent II chord. |

Mr Montee, sounds like to me, your wife has a great ear. I also enjoy playing Carolina Moon. I'm just a kid of 62. Sir, i've heard you play, and without a doubt, i bet you can play either Carolina Moon, or that other fancy tune just wonderfully. Your playing is #1 in my book. I've never met you personally, but i sure enjoy your playing, and read your informative forum postings. You get a fat warm sound to die for, and excellent chord work. I really appreciate your earlier work. Thank You for sharing years of great listening, and your added knowledge, and years of experience on the forum. George Redmon
I play a 12 string "Extended C6th" And thats ALL i play. |

I hear no similarity between Las Golandrinas; Mexican folk tune, popularized by Jerry Byrd and also a version By Buddy Emmons on a Starday compilation entitled "Singing Strings" as well as an a button accordian version by Flaco Jimenez, not to mention a reprise of this tune on a Tom Morrel album featuring Jerry Byrd and the Song Carolina Moon. What am I missing? |

I don't know how musical your wife is, Ray, but, to non-musicians, if two songs have the same chord structures they sound alike. That, of course, means that almost all blues, most country and most folk songs, sound similar. You can certainly use the same backing tracks for multiple tunes. |
