I have been noticing a lot of musicians going straight from a rack to the PA rather than using an amplifier lately. I would LOVE to lighten up my live rig. Do any of you do this? What are you using?
Thanks,

I don't do that live, but I have a Boss GT-Pro that I use in studio situations where I can't use an amp. It has about all you'll ever need in it. Amp models, speaker simulators, and about every effect that Boss has made. You might have to do a little searching to find one, but they're out there. |

If you have effects pedals, this works great for going direct.

Randy Beavers toured when playing with Lee Ann Womack using this V8 along with a reverb and a delay pedal. The V8 went directly to the PA and the soundmen said it was as good a steel tone as they ever got, didn't even need to adjust the EQ.

Do as you will, but I flatly refuse to play in any live venue without using an amp. |

I decided against it. I just bought a 250 watt bass head with a single 15. It's lightweight, loud, and clean. I'm still sorting out the settings but I'm happy so far. |

I use one of Brad Sarno's Revelation tube preamps in a rack running thru a TC Electronics G # effects processor stereo xlr out to our board. I have a stereo monitor mix thru a Crest XRM 20 monitor board on stage into a Shure PSM 600 wireless iem pack and into my Fidelity custom duals ear monitors and the sound is UNBELIEVABLE!! |

The country band I play in uses in-ear monitors and no amps. I use a Line 6 Pod XT. I don't have issues regarding this at all, I show up, set up, plug in and can dial in my monitor mix with my smartphone.
When I play at home I use my Twin Reverb, can't beat that for tone, but the Line 6 setup works almost as well. My main steel patch uses the 'Twin reverb' amp model, so there's some continuity there.... _________________ Red Emmons D10 fatback #2246D with sweet Hugh Briley split cases, Black Emmons S10 #1466S, '73 Fender "Snakeskin" Twin Reverb, Peavey Nashville 400, Line 6 Pod XT, Fender 400, Fender Stringmaster Double-8, too many guitars, one bass! |

Same here as David. Pod XT with Dodd presets to monitor board. Play lots of casinos and some summer fests. In-ears, sounds great. As long as you trust your FOH person it works quite well and I get lots of compliments. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. Piles of other stuff. |
