Hello SGF,

I dug out my old Nashville 400 to get to the shop, and wrenched my back lifting it. Back it goes to gear oblivion.

Interested in light(er)weight amps you use, including head/cab options.

thanks,
Drew

Drew I'm sure you will get a variety of answers on the subject but here are what I have done:

Split my NV400 into separate cabs utilizing an Eminence EPS-C15. Use a pair of hybrid pine/plywood cabs. My speaker cab weighs about 19 to 20 pounds and the amp cab is a little heavier due to the transformer.

Another option would be using something similar to a MB200 amp (weighs 2.5 lbs) and a speaker cab loaded with a neo mag speaker add reverb and delay pedals to taste.

Roland make a Cube 80XL (the latest version has another designation) weighs 34 lbs. A very nice little amp.

BTW I live in Mason, WV Very Happy

NV 112? You could put the 400 in a head cab, too.

Milkman Pedal Steel Mini - a hefty 40 tube watts
upcoming Milkman Hybrid - 400 watts

both about 35 lbs and the size of a Fender Princeton...with tone to die for. No tradeoffs at all in that department (I tried to like my MB-200, I really did, but just couldn't, and got rid of it).

Consider it a well-justified medical expense....I did!

Drew, I use GK MB200, with Sica 12 inch speaker ( lots of other options on neo speakers either 12 or 15 inch). Amp is only two lbs in weight, gives out 200 watts.Built into cab with speaker weighs in at 21lbs.

Drew, I just started using the Quilter SteelAire combo amp. It weighs like 35 pounds with a 15" Eminence speaker in it. Pat Quilter had a hand in designing the speaker. It's 200 watts and sounds great.

For stage I'm using 2 of the SteelAire rackmount heads into 2 12" speaker cabs. Same preamp as in the combo amp, but in a rack mountable head.

Check them out..

Best,

Tim

I'm using an Quilter Aviator head into one or two JBL 12's, and it's pretty sweet. There are things about the Quilter that I don't like( the reverb is awful) but over all, for anamp that weighs 9 lbs., I'm pretty happy. I've come to realize that if I can't be heard with 100 watts, somebody needs to turn down!

Drew do yourself the biggest favour you can. Take a real good look at the Walker Stereo Steel amp set up. As far as I am concerned and many others are concerned there is nothing out there that can hold a candle to the WALKER STEREO STEEL. If you want the best sound out there, do you want to fill a room with full rounded sound with out sounding loud, ya want the sweet sound, and all of the sound , buy the WALKER STEREO STEEL SET up. Its all modular. Amp and effects is one unit and light weight and the both tuned speaker cabs are separate. The sound is to die for. Once you play through this system you will not go back playing through one speaker, very old school as far as sound a one speaker system. Gerry Walker has almost 40 years on the pedal steel, this guy knows what steelers are looking for in sound and portability, Its all there. Give Gerry a call. Walker Stereo Steel.
