Hello All
My internet scouring has lead me here in hopes of
finding information to restore a beat up old relic.
I found a Tonexpressor in a junk store in Northern
California a couple of days ago and have been reading
through many past forum post trying to find info on
this particular one. When I found this thing I didn't
even know what it was at first- just seemed unique.
I have read that there were models made that were only
volume pedals-but it seems this one has just had the
tone functions removed by a past owner.
FIRST of all, the top plate WAS fastened at the heel
with a set screw, with a brass nut on the other side.
I took the heel screw out and the plate swivels and
stops as it should.
Opening it up- its missing the tone potentiometer and
the gear it would need to control the tone. BUT the
toothed rail and the metal strip that puts pressure on
the rail as it swivels is still intact.
I'm not here looking for parts- just looking for good
pictures that show me what mine is missing and how to
wire it up if possible.
Any information is very much appreciated

From what I can see, the only things missing are a pot, the gear (like the one on the vol. pot), and a capacitor....then, of course, the wiring. If you can find a gear, I think you could return it to full operation. _________________ Best regards,

Thanks Mike-
That's what I was thinking. Do you know if the gear would be the exact same size as the one on the volume pot? I'm going to a clock repair man tomorrow to have him try to match the one in the pedal. |

Yes, Dylan, they should be the same size. The pot could have been a different value (ohms), but most likely, it would have been the same as the volume pot...probably 250, or 500, k ohms. _________________ Best regards,

Thanks Mike- this is exactly the kind of info I need.
If anyone knows the tone potentiometer and capacitor values, please let me know.
Pictures would be helpful if available.
Again I'm not trying to hassle anyone for parts from 1930's- I'm sure I can find sufficient parts in time.
What I'm interested in is information other than what is readily available (via Guitar Player mag article and History of Epiphone book).
I'd especially like to know how many of these Epi made and what the current value is- I haven't found any sold on eBay or any auction sites.
I was asked by a forum member why I didn't "just spend a couple hundred bucks and get a working one",
So I'll assume they're worth at least that. (I wasn't looking for one when I found it and had never heard of it!)
I think for the $40 I have into it I can come out with a pretty rare piece of guitar history.
Not interested in selling it, just repairing it and keeping it's history alive for my kids to appreciate.
Thanks again for any information guys |
