I have been meaning for weeks to get a set of National finger picks and finally ordered some a couple of days ago. I have Dunlops and one National that came with a guitar I bought and the Nationals are so much more comfortable on my fingers. If anyone else is interested Anthill music in Florida is selling them for $10.99 for a set of 4 fingerpicks and a thumbpick. Of course these are not vintage, but they are being produced again to the same specs as the originals apparently. _________________ GFI SM10 3/4, 1937 Gibson EH-150, 2 - Rondo SX Lap Steels and a Guyatone 6 String C6. Who makes these "National" fingerpicks ?
My thoughts are that Don Young has no affiliation with these? Anyone know ? |

Me too. When I started driving, gas was 28 cents a gallon, and a pack of cigarettes cost 32 cents. I paid $50 for my first car, and auto insurance for the whole year was about $35. Of course, jobs paid about $2 an hour back then, so it's all relative.
Regarding fingerpicks, I've been using Kyser picks in recent years. I used original National picks back in the day, but I don't care for the new Nationals. Just my opinion. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

What don't you like about the new ones Doug? Different material or something? _________________ GFI SM10 3/4, 1937 Gibson EH-150, 2 - Rondo SX Lap Steels and a Guyatone 6 String C6. Peavey 400 and a Roland 40 Amps. Behringer Reverb Pedal. |

Haven't tried the new Nationals, yet. Currently use 1 vintage National, and 1 Kyser. Can't really tell any difference.
Helps me remember which finger to place them on.
I guess I'm really dated. My first full time job was at $0.75/hr. Did pretty well though, as we worked 58 hrs. per week.

I can't really put my finger on it... They just feel different. The ones I tried were the NP1, a couple of years ago. I haven't tried the current NP2 yet. They look exactly like the old Nationals. I'll have to try those. |
The ones I ordered appear to be shiny, and a lot of the old ones I've seen had a more matte finish. Mine should probably be in my mailbox at home when I get there. I'm pretty sure my Dad had nationals when he played many years ago but I can't seem to find them. _________________ GFI SM10 3/4, 1937 Gibson EH-150, 2 - Rondo SX Lap Steels and a Guyatone 6 String C6. I have a set of NP2's and a set of Kyser and, for me, the Kyser picks are a lot more comfortable. |

There are only two kinds of fingerpicks in the world. Ones with one or two narrow bands, which stay on because you can adjust the bands to dig in a little. And/or cover the bands with eyeglass nosepads, heat-shrink tubing, tool-handle covering rubber. I actually found silicon tub caulk to be the best of that lot. You could probably use skateboard grip tape, a lot of people like to spit on themselves...
And the other kind are called "ACRI". I cannot tell a lie - you really have to take some time getting the bands right, I also have to curve the tips up a little bit and shorten them around 3/32." And once you get the bands contoured exactly, they stay on because every time you pick, the motion seats them a little. And then there are only two kinds of picks in the world: ACRI, and wrong ones. Elderly & Janet Davis carry them. It's like, fat ballpoints with rubber grips or snow shovels with the S-curve handle - you just think, why couldn't I have had those thirty years ago? Velcro, indoor plumbing, hula hoops - the world moves on. |

I still have about 7 or 8 I got around 1953. Don't think I paid .30 for them. Hard to remember memory's slipping a little. |
