How feasible is it to put legs on a lap steel single or double that didnt come with them originally. Is there a company that sells legs you would recommend? Are certain legs designed better than others?

I've found Mark Roeder's stands to be sturdier than stock/add-on legs...plus you can use a single stand for numerous lap steels.

A non-invasive way to add legs to a lapsteel is to simply by leg sockets and legs and install them on a pine plank. Cover the plank with black naugahyde and use industrial strength Velcro to keep your lapsteel secured to the covered plank. The naugahyde should first be sprayed on the back side with an industrial strength adhesive, wrapped and stapled to the plank. This assembly takes a few tools not normally found in the casual home workshop, such as a Forstner drill bit to counter bore the head of the leg flange into the plank. A staple gun to "upholster" the naugahyde to the plank.
But, the end result is good looking and presentable and suitable for virtually any lapsteel you have in mind. Here's a pic. Excuse the banjo.
