I have a problem I have never encountered in all my years of trying to play. I just changed strings on my Emmons SD10 4/7. When I tried tuning the b pedal G# to A 6 string it would not tune. The the 3rd string did fine. I tune the 6 string open to G# but when I try to tune the pedal it will not change to the A sounds about a half step off. I tune the pedal to A and the 6 string is too sharp in open position w/o the pedal. I put it back in the case and looked at the changer and there are two flat pieces beside the 6 string pull finger in the changer that are protruding farther out than the other ones are on the other strings. All the other strings and pedal are tuning o.k. Any ideas as to the cause?

Change gauges? Change from a plain to a wound, or from wound to plain? Is the nylon nut pressing on the finger when no pedal is pressed? If so, you need to back off the nylon nut and increase the travel on the pedal or try different holes in the bellcrank or finger. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Richard,
You nailed it. Called a friend in Bham Bob Simmmons of Simmmons GUitar Company. He went thru several causes and then I told him I changed from a flat string to a wound 6 string and he said that was the problem. Changed the string and it was fixed. Never had this problem in all these years of changing strings on a steel.
Thanks Joseph for your input.

I only use a .020P for the #6 G#. I've had zero tuning problems with the .020P for years. |

I don't have tuning problems with the .022p. Been using it for pretty much all my 43 years playing. The .020p is too light sounding for my style of playing, the same as a .010 would sound on the 3rd string. I switched a couple of days ago to a .012 on my 3rd string. I like the heavier gauge strings, but again, it is everyone's personal choice as to what they use for their style of playing. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
