Paul, I am really enjoying "The Players" CD I purchased in St. Louis. How are you getting the sitar steel effect? It is so cool!
I would assume that perhaps you are using a wooden bar and some effect unit on your Franklin steel???

I know that Jim Dunlop made a sitar bar, which was just a regular bar with a ground flat on it. I've got one and it does a very good job of getting that sound. Don't know if they still make them or not, but it could probably be done to a regular bar. |

Paul Franklin Sr. makes a flat aluminum sitar bar. I bought one from him in St. Louis at the ISGC a couple of years ago. Seems like I paid $20-$25 for it. I bet you could get one from Franklin Steel Guitar Co..It sounds pretty authentic.

I have a George L bar which is flat on one side. It works fine for a sitar sound, but honestly.... I only get that sound by mistake |

I have a Sitar Bar that Paul Sr. made.
It's two year old.
You can hear a good example of Paul Jr. using it on Toby Keith's "My List".

That same sound is on Lee Ann Womack "I Hope You Dance", most noticably the fills right after the vocal comes in. |

Frank,
I have an old Emmons knee lever that has been cut off to the length of a steel bar. It sounds just fine for no more than I use it on our show. (how's the volume pedal?)

Hi Gaylon, I hope to finally try it out tonight. Thanks for the trade. Interesting idea for a sitar bar. |
