Per a recent thread, I visited the website to hear Tommy White's shuffle "Off to Tupelo".
http://www.steelguitar.com/sound/sound.htm#TommyWhiteByRequestCD

This is a sweet sounding tidbit that would make a nice focal point for some PSG learnings - for me at least...

Starting questions:
a) what particular "style" does this represent?
b) what frets are the opening bars played at? 5-3-5-5AB or 10-10AB-12AB-10?
c) where are all of the trills found? There have to be ten different trill patterns - anyone inclined to list them?
d) I think I hear some muted lower strings licks mixed in. How to do this? Tab example(s)?

Question One: I think this style goes back to the 60's. At one time it was known as the Texas dance band style. Made popular by Ray Price, Buck Owens, among others. It's still great music even if it is 40 years old, and quite a challenge to play correctly.
You have to love shuffles.

I first heard Tommy play Shuffle Off to Tupelo" as a bumper on Prime Time Country.Great playing no doubt. As a matter of fact the entire CD is wonderful.Another great shuffle on the CD is Pick Me Up on your Way Down.I can't imagine anyone adding anything to what Tommy played on that one. They're just no licks left to play. He played every thing that can be played on E9. And with taste too.
A ride on C6th would have been cool though.Love that Tommy White!-------bb
