I have been making a conscious effort lately to not make a face when playing. I've been told that my most intense faces are when I go nearer the bridge. Now that I've become aware of it, I try not to do it.

But, I'll be darned if I can get those high notes without screwing up my mouth, and showing my teeth. It really is hard to play and not make strange faces.

Bill, there's a reason why some steelers wear a black cowboy hat pulled low over the face! Laughing

Hi Bill,
All I can say is, don't add a wah wah pedal to your rig.
They cause great facial distortion with many users! Laughing

The only time I make an even uglier face than the one that was God given......

is when some really beautiful woman dashes across the dance floor, headed directly at me, only to have her complain that "YOU never smile"...... Gee's!

I think I probably look more like the bottom left of Lee's pictures.

I wouldn't worry about it. When I get INTO it, I make faces, and my body moves like Stevie Wonder. I used to make fun of him, but I realized he's dancing in place.

I wouldn't worry about it, either...those expressions are your natural emotions being brought to the surface by your music. Unless you're playin' with the Dillard's...if you feel it, show it !!!

Huh? Have you ever WATCHED Rodney's face? The Dillards were no pokerfaced bunch.

I think perhaps he is referring to "the Darlings", as portrayed by the Dillards, on the Andy Griffith show. They acted almost zombie-ish.

I was indeed referring to Briscoe Darling and his fired up boys.

If it's a God-given natural part of your performance - go with it...nobody will hold it against you...displaying genuine focus and emotion when playing is part of the art.

I'm convinced that accurate "lip action" is required for an amazing solo.
