What is your opinion on a lap steel with the longer 25.5" scale? I'm building another lap steel (with palm pedals), and am considering the 25.5 scale, but am curious as the the general consensus and thought about this longer scale size guitar?

What difference does it make in the sound? Is it worth the extra length, or is the bigger size a real downside?

If you want to add your opinion about palm pedals, I'd like to hear that as well.

I see nothing wrong with a 25.5" scale. I have a few Fender Stringmasters with 26" scales. The longer the scale, the longer the sustain.

To me, longer sustain is important, and this reason alone would make me want to make it 25.5. I could probably go to 26" if I wanted to ?

Thanks for the reply,
Wayne

Sure, you could go to 26"
The only problem you might have is with the palm pedals.
When the big guns were designing the pedal steel, they experimented with different scale lengths and it was determined that 24" to 24 1/4" was just about the limit without a lot of string breakage. If you have a keyless tuning head you can go longer because you don't have that extra string length to contend with.
