The SFX is a power mono amp and effects unit and you have to have a preamp or use a send from your amp to the input of the SFX.
I owned one and these are the best kept secret for a spacious huge stereo sound when used with another amp.
The 12" speaker in a chamber in the SFX faces sideways (no speakers in front) although it looks like there are,so it's not like using two amps in stereo where the speakers face you. The top on the SFX is wide and flat and allows you to stack another amp on top of it. Also, the amp on top does not have to be a monster. A Roland cube 80 the SFX would be a great duo with the SFX as you could use the Cube by itself or use them together for sound that bounces around the room and everyone in the band will think they are in outer space. The effects in the SFX are nice reverbs, delays & chorus. If you used an amp such as the cube, use reverb on the cube and delay on the SFX. Just wonderful!
Now the down side, it's big and bulky and awkward to carry. There's always a downside
I paid $160.00 and they pop up once in a while for about the same price. IMO, it's a gem to add to your setup for the price of a Reverb Pedal. I know where there is a brand new SFX for real cheap.

Hi,
I designed the Fender SFX Satellite back in the late 1990s in conjunction with Aspen Pittman.
Its internal signal processing is such that the SFX Satellite is not intended to be used as a stand-alone amplifier.
I have always wondered how well the Satellite and a Steel-King would work together, but I never tried it.
Best Regards,

Sam, congratulations for designing the SFX Satalite. If I still played out and wasn't a senior citizen, the SFX would be in my rotation of setups. The fellow and friend that now owns the SFX I had keeps telling me how he enjoys using it in his studio with many applications.
If you do a search at harmonyventral.com on the SFX you will read many positive user reviews on the unit.

Sam to answer you question the SFX and the Steel King sound absolutely amazing together, I have a question that maybe you can help, I also have a Yamaha G100 Combo, that only has a direct output so would this work on the SFX just as a single connection or does it also need to have a pre amp return?
