I built this for a friend. Why? Because he wanted me to.

High-Tech/Retro - I love it!! Now you've got me thinking about modding my Cube 60 and two extension cabinets with 15" Eminence speakers.

Lee, He had the back off to shorten the speaker cord, he thought it might rub the speaker cone, and the cat swiped one of them and he couldn't find it. He has since replaced it.

David...yes good idea. What I do is stand my Cube 80XL as it is on top of the Peavy Nashville 400 speaker cab with just the 15" Black Widow with a Neo Magnet. I had the Nashville converted sometime ago. Now the Cube with it's 12" speaker into the extension 15" is an incredible full sound. I had to tweak the Cube a little because the B/W is quite a bright sounding speaker. I use the black face setting all the time.

I use a Cube 80 with great results. Lots of features for a great price and the weight is manageable. I have an extension cab with an EV15 that really wakes this amp up. Most stages I play on don't require the extra gain but the thing really rocks with the 15.

I tried to separate the head from the cab and didn't know where to plug in the third wire (to the speaker) so I left it alone. Does the Cube 60 have three wires to the speaker? The newer Cube 80s don't have the external speaker jack so hold on to your "vintage" Cube amps.

Nice job with the wood work.

John...I didn't know the new Cube 80's don't have an "out" into another speaker. Seems going backwards to me. With the 80XL being a closed back combo, the sound is very directional, so linking it as I do to a 15" speaker which is in a cab which "isn't" closed back is really good...As you know it opens the sound right up. I actually think my Nashville 400 cab with the Neo magnet Black Widow is a little lighter than the Cube 80XL Very Happy

Bill, Beautiful work. Do you have a preference for closed back speaker cabinets over open backs? What do you consider the pluses and minuses of either?

Thanks . . . Jim W.

Jimbo,

Thank you.

I like closed back. It's a personal preference. I find it easier to get a smoother tone, more bottom, and tighter sound.

He needs to have the cat stuffed. It's a pest.
