I was wondering if anyone has experience with either Lapking model?
Thanks for your time. |

Hi Tom,
I have two beautiful Lap King Rodeos - one with two Lollar Charlie Christians and one with a Lollar Imperial (neck) and a Lollar Supro (bridge).
I have nothing but good things to say about them. The craftsmanship is second to none, they sound amazing and I find the Rodeo design really comfortable on the lap (and they look great too).
And Jason DuMont who builds them is a super nice guy.
Here is a clip of one of my Rodeos (on the recording, I played it through a 1970s Fender Super Reverb, using the neck humbucker):

I used to have one of Dumont's Bel Aire models. Sounded great, although it was a large guitar relatively speaking (25" scale, and sized like a Gibson skylark).
Perfect clean tones - the Lollar pups in it really shined.
I had gotten it used. I think it would have fit it's strengths better if it had been an 8-string with legs (which he does make). Sounded more like a pro console to me than a "blues lap steel."
Although I don't regret selling it (nothing to do with the instrument itself), I wouldn't mind someday getting another. |
