I am looking for information on my 1929 National tri cone. By the serial number 1854 I know it was made in May 1930. It has Georgia engraved on it and I am looking for the history on it. Was it once owned by Sol Hoopii? Or someone else? I have checked with national and they have no records. Any assistance would be appreciated. 314-910-0484.

Bob Brozman is gone but his book documents many examples of serial numbers. Perhaps yours is one that was reported to him before the book was published (20+ years ago). Custom-engraved Nationals have been documented.
Also check out notecannons.com and get in touch with Colin McCubbin. Marc Schoenberger in Southern California is a restorer of old Nationals. Also try nationalguitar.com (this is not National Reso-phonic.)

Not attempting to be contrary here, but if you're certain your instrument was made in 1930, why do you consider it to be a 1929?
According to the widely circulated list of National serial numbers, 1930 would seem to be correct for s/n 1854.
Mine is s/n 1750:
According to the aforementioned list, it is from 1929.
Would also appreciate seeing photos of "Georgia." Sounds like a very interesting guitar. |

I'm nearly certain I once read somewhere that there was a woman named "Georgia" who was associated with Sol Hoopii in one way or another.
Someone here will likely know more.
If indeed your instrument is associated with Sol, and that provenance could be reliably demonstrated, it would be nearly priceless.
Any more engraving? Is it a Style 1? More pics of your awesome instrument would be appreciated by many of us. |
