Kevin,
Better pictures and pictures of the complete speaker will help in identifying it. Did you look on the inside surface
of the "spokes" of the frame for a sticker/label?
Thanks

It's an Eminence speaker of some design. I'm just guessing but most likely from the Kappalite series since it doesn't have any label on the mag. Looking at the Eminence site, there are only a few neos that don't have a label and they're all from the Kappalite series.
I'm not sure the cone stampings can be used to id it. Perhaps someone else will know, but all earlier Eminence speakers I know of have serial numbers starting with 67-xxxx. I don't know it that'a still in use for these later speaker models or not. |

Thanks Mr. Jeffrey and Mr. Jerry! I'll try to get some better pictures this evening, if possible. I bought this speaker in a Telonics cabinet that was represented to be a Telonics speaker. The person I bought it from was also told the speaker was a Telonics in the cabinet. I will do some reading on the Kappalite series speakers for use with steel.
Thanks again, and I'll get pictures posted soon. |

Ah well, with that history, could it be possible that the label was just removed or came off?...or any early Telonics before that might not have had a label....but you wrote you had ruled out it being a Telonics unit....hmmm.
I'm not familiar enough with those mags to know if the print is silk screened or it's an adhesive label. |

Can you explain why you have ruled out Telonics? I'm not challenging you. Just curious.

Yes sir, Mr. Jon, I don't feel you were challenging me at all!
I called Telonics and also sent them some pictures of the speaker. I was told it was not one of their speakers, as none of their speakers were ever made with the Spade connectors. No other stickers or markings that I see, other than the RoHS compliant sticker.

Mr. Jerry, you may be correct about the label. After looking at the magnet, it looks as though it could be possible that it MAY have had a label at one point, but it just came off. I can see a faint ring where the label would have been. |

Aluminum cap...hmmm...EPS 15Cs were alum, but I dunno if they had tabs v.spring buttons? Those listed on the Eminence site all have push button spring clips.
Maybe somebody there can id if for you. Just for fun, do you know the impedance? 4 ohm, 8 ohm... |

Same 451549-18 code on speaker cone as the one here - https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=317522 - nobody exactly figured that one out either.
Not the exact same speaker due to the spade lugs on yours, but probably very similar. Some type of Eminence high-power neo, that other one came out of an Evans amp. |

The Eminence Delta-Lites made for Avatar had spade lugs, but they didn't have the aluminum dome. I also find that 4-rib suspension ring intriguing! I suspect that Eminence made it for yet another builder, or that it was a short-lived version of the Delta or Kappa-Lite. |

That looks like the 15" Eminence custom in the Quilter Steelaire. That speaker has the spade lugs. |

I just checked my Quilter Steelaire combo. It's the same speaker, so a custom Eminence made for Quilter. _________________ ----------------------------------

Thanks guys! I got busy last night and didn't have time to get my multimeter and check the ohms. I have several speakers, PF-400, TT15, Telonics, Black Widow and a few others I have gotten to try. So far, the PF-400 and the TT15 are the 2 best sounding speakers, to me, anyway. Actually, the BEST sounding speaker I have is an old JBL M31-4. I wouldn't mind having another one of those.
Maybe I will find a place where this speaker does good.
I'll get back with the Ohm reading when I get it.
Thanks again! |
