I'm downtown at Laylas this Fri-Sat 4-6 for Vince Gill tribute 2 hour set with all Vince tunes. Pretty cool stuff to play and we're doing five tunes from the new Bakersfield CD so this is interesting for me. Also Sat starts off at The Wheel with a great singer Nick Cross and it's just the two of us. I usually play this gig with my Cat Can guitar but he asked for the pedal steel so the last couple of weeks I've been using that instead. If you're in town come by and say Hi!

I had an uncharacteristically busy week.

Wednesday with Al Dressen's Super Swing Revue at the Austin Airport; Thursday 6-8 with Tony Harrison at the Broken Spoke, then 9-1 with Alvin Crow at the Little Longhorn.

Friday at the Broken Spoke with Gary P. Nunn, and again Saturday at the Spoke with Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys. Five gigs in 4 days is nice, but it can wear ya down.

I'll be just 1660 miles up the road at McShea's in Narberth, PA tonight. I know it's a bit of a drive, but, hey, at least there's no cover! Wink

Frank, Funny story about those Vince Gill songs. I played a wedding reception in Branson Mo. about 15 years ago and Look At Us was on the song list. At the break a gentleman came up to me and said you did ok on the ride for Look At Us. John would have smiled. I asked John who. He said John Hughey. I asked if he knew John and he said kinda, He's my cousin. Every time since then I want to ask the crowd, If there is anybody here kin to John Hughey, would you please raise your hand. Laughing

James Murray,
Years ago, my band opened for Loretta at Ponderosa Park, northern Ohio. I walked into the backstage lounge, carrying my Kline Uni. The first person I saw was John! He and Lloyd are my steel guitar heroes. My jaw was on the floor. John put me at ease in a few seconds! One of the nicest people I'd ever met! He'd never seen a Kline before, and we had a wonderful conversation,,,, but,,,, I was so nervous playing on the same show! But he was very complimentary, and then simply blew me away,,,, but very politely! A wonderful man!

Last night I subbed for my friend Tommy Dodd on a Patsy Cline tribute play. Had a great time. Not exactly the typical VFW gig. Laughing And yes that is the red G2 that Bobby Boggs advertised here for a long time. I promise it is a nice red color but it sure photographs badly! It makes up for the looks in tone though!

Bill, that G2 is beautiful. I love red and it photographed just fine. Wish I could have been there, I know you knocked um dead and filled Tommy Dodd's shoes just fine. I'm keeping an eye on you... Wink

Dick, it wasn't exactly Papa Joe's in Newport, NC or Herb's On Atlantic Beach but it'll do.. I still remember that trip to the Jeff Newman seminar in Greenville, NC where we all our gear crammed in your VW bug.

BTW, Connie, my ex, has a photo album with some pics of us back in the day. When I can think of it, I am going to get them and will post.

Semper Fi!

On Friday morning I was looking at a pretty empty weekend, but the phone rang and I ended up playing four shows in three days with Rodney Parker & Liberty Beach. Friday at the Campfire Grill in Grand Rapids, Ohio; Saturday at the Centurions Motorcycle Club and then Sunday for the "Kidney Walk" benefit and then another benefit to raise money for some apartment fire victims. All Toledo area....
