I was viewing the AISGC website recently and thought that it might be of interest to the Steel Guitar Forum members to see the guest artist that have come to the AISGC convention in Winchester over the past 28 years. Each one of the guest brought their special talent and aloha spirit to enrich us all. I have been with the club since it's beginning to enjoy all of these top-notched Hawaiian Steel Guitarists and entertainers.

I sure hope Walter Mo'okini and Harold Haku'ole played steel more than anything else when they came with Alan Akaka or the crowd got ripped off! Walter had a great old style and Harold was a steel monster who's awesome abilities always got overshadowed as a Barney clone. |

At the Winchester AISGC convention, Walter Mo'okini and Harold Haku'ole backed Alan Akaka and the three formed an excellent trio with Walter's Hawaiian falsetto. That was the formal stuff.
However, we got to hear Walter and Harold play steel alot on and at the informal stuff, namely at the famous Overpass Motel Garage. We could not get enough of these two guys. We all wanted to hear them play more. These events were usually all nighters.
Everyone who heard Walter and Harold play in Winchester knew that they were excellent Hawaiian Steel Guitarists who both played an old style that is rarely matched today. It was not surprising when Harold replaced Barney Isaacs at the Halekulani. It is not widely known but Harold was an arranger of music for many groups, including this group.
Thanks for bringing up the issue, Ron. |
