I’m a new forum member and wanted my first post to be a thank you to all of you that share your knowledge and experience. I’ve spent many productive hours (and at least twice as many unproductive ones) reading posts. This forum is such a great resource – well at least it helps overcome my suspicion that it’s crazy to try to make music by moving a piece of metal back and forth over little wires. Thanks.

Welcome Rick and if you're near enough, come over to the
â–º Heartland Steel Guitar Association Bimonthy Jam this afternoon.
Bring your steel and join in or just visit and listen, whichever you prefer.

I see you're from Kansas. When I think of Kansas and lap steel, I think of this one:

That's Billy Tonnesen. Billy passed away a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately. He was a longtime Steel Forum member and a real gentleman. He tells the fascinating story how how he and his band got the Sinatra session in CA back in the late '40s in this thread ---> http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=129624

Thanks, Tony. I hadn't heard that Sinatra song before - it made me smile.

Russ - I went to the Heartland Steel Guitar Association meeting and had a great time listening to some really talented players.

Welcome Rick,
I'm new to the forum myself. You'll find there are years and years of collected talent here and the folks, they are so nice and helpful too.
