I played at a gig last night, and did sound check and all that before the gig. Everything working great and sounding good. So, it's time to start playing. I turn my NV400 on and start hearing feedback. Turns out my Goodrich LDR2 electronic volume pedal somehow got stuck in the full on position. Pressing and releasing the pedal yielded no variation in volume level. So, the first song I had to play the intro, but first had to turn the volume on my amp down. Then I only played in the parts where I had to. So there I am doing a turn around and I have very little volume. The pedal started working again. I have no idea what happened.
This venue is starting to be bad luck for me. One time, I was playing and the brass pull pin (dog bone) on my 3rd or 5th string (can't remember which, but it was definitely on the B pedal) broke on my Carter. This gig is 2 one hour sets, so I had to play that time for half the first set and the second set without the change that broke.
If it wasn't for the fact that I love playing there, I would stay several miles away from it. I believe there is a ghost from a dead steel guitar player haunting the place. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Richard it was probably the 3rd string peg that broke. If it had been the 5th I think you could remember it better. I would've been dead in the water. _________________ GFI D10-8/6 Black/Red

I could play without a volume pedal no problem. But if my B pedal broke I would go home crying. _________________ I give music lessons on several different instruments in Cambridge, NY (between Bennington, VT and Albany, NY). I remember one time my volume pedal got stuck in OFF position, after the gig I received many compliments, and the band guys said, I had the best tone ever...everyone was very happy _________________ www.steelguitarsonline.com |

Actually Don, I meant the 3rd and 6th string. I did lose the dog bone on my 5th string at a gig with only a couple of songs left, so it wasn't too bad. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . On a Carter, there is a brass pin that is really shapes like a barbell (some call it a dog bone - Carter called it a pull pin.) that the pull rod hooks around in the bell crank. the rod has a hook on it. The rod is stainless and the pin is brass. After a while, the friction makes the rod "saw" through the pin. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Richard, I had a similar thing happen to me with a Goodrich light pedal. Set up to play an outside gig and did sound check like you did and everything was fine. The sun came out from behind clouds when we stared playing and when it did, my volume pedal went nuts. In the middle was off, all way off was wide open and didn't get far enough to find out what all way down was. After a brilliant deduction, I figured out it was the sun and put a towel over volume pedal blocking sun and worked fine for rest of gig.
I think Goodrich has since come out with a fix for that problem. _________________ Henry Matthews

Henry... It happened one time to me years ago when I was also playing outside. We were playing on a low-boy truck trailer. The sun was shining directly into the pedal causing this problem We ended up putting the large PA speaker in front of me to shield out the sun. I called Goodrich who acknowledged the problem. They had me send it to them to add some more plastic shields inside.
I have no explanation for it happening in the club I was playing at. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
