Just seen your post... will take some pics later today. It's now about 6:00AM... having trouble adjusting to the time zone. The Telonics crew said thank David. There's lots of interest in the combo... sounds amazing! Ken used one on the main stage and had a terrific sound. Have spoken to FJ about your fretboard. Lee sends his regards.

Unfortunately I think attendances have dropped this year. Looking around the hall on Thursday and Friday night, there were not too many people under the age of 60. Couple that with the big name players who have either passed away or retired, it puts pressure on the promoters to have the attractive pool of players that they used to have a few years back. There was no Franklin, White or Johnson who were otherwise indisposed this year, and those guys are guaranteed to put backsides on seats. Buck Reid and Doug Jernigan were on fire last night, and Buck played some scintillating jazz and up tempo country things. He is the future of steel guitar in taking it to the next level.
I have taken a load of photos, and will put some on today. Re Mark Dunn's comments on the new Teleonics combo, I will tell everyone reading this that it is astounding in its dynamic range and string separation. I never thought that I would come across another amp that could compare with my Webb, but I believe that this new Telonics amp does just that and more. It is a huge sound. Thanks to Dave Beaty for the loan of this combo for my Dallas set, and for putting on the extremely informative sound seminars on the Friday and Saturday with Ken Fox and Jim Evans.
This is a great steel guitar show, and for those folks who have considered going but never quite made it.......you should. It's a wonderful experience.

That probably also applies to the ISGC in St Louis. Taking nothing away from the outstanding pickers that do perform, but there's no more Emmons, Day, Rugg, Hughey and other pioneers that I failed to mention.
I have never been to Dallas, but I would like to attend before I get too old. Unfortunately, Winter is the prime show season in Florida. |

For the past several years, when I go to a steel show,,,I pause and look around,,,,99% of what I see is a bunch of old, fat, grey or bald headed men LIKE ME. Common sense tells me that they won't all be back next year,,,,we're dying off,,,,or "the home" won't let us out!!!,,,,and there are VERY few young people to replace us. And also,,,our "heros" that we come to see and hear every year are thinning out also. I think I have to "face the music",,,the interest in what I think is the most beautiful instrument in the world, is ,,,primarily,,,,(NOT ALL!!!) an older generation thing. And while steel guitar may very well be capable of much more,,,unlike guitar or piano,,it is just not seen as an instrument that crosses all genres of music,,,whether or not that is an accurate assessment or not. JMHO,,,,, |

Sonny, although I agree with you I would like to add there are a lot of good Steelers out there that are just as good as the aforementioned. They have new techniques and new tunings that have a lot to offer, but are being overlooked because of the name.
Pedal steel is not dead it's just not being promoted right. It's up to the Alberts and the Scotties to start bringing some of these unknowns to the fore front. That's what will save the Steel guitar.

| Bill, you are right on the mark. Our idols and heroes have left us with some great talent to start filling their shoes. This is evident at the Dallas show. Now, its up to all of us to do our part to encourage the younger generation to visit a steel show to experience first hand the beauty of our beloved instrument. I would even suggest giving them discounts for their first attendance. Never can tell, they may walk away with a hand full of cd's. Just my thoughts. Something has to be done before it's to late. |

| Bill Ferguson does a really fine job of MCing the show not to mention all the hard work his wife does. He even made me make my own announcement about the church service. I for one would really like to see his and others photos. Bill, don't let em beat you down. I bet for every one that is critical, there's 10 that want to see them.
