I realize the choice of seats is subjective, however, the seats offered by Steelerschoice and Steelseat have small differences -- one of which is color options. What are you guys experience and recommendations? I don't know anything about the SteelSeat but I can tell you that the Steelers Choice seats are really good dependable seats. I have three and had had them for years and they look like the day I bought them. |

I used to build seats with backs using the "boat seat" hinges. I now have a Steeler's Choice as I wanted the "sidecar" model with back. Steeler's Choice was the company that came up with the "sidecar" design. Others have followed and built models with the "sidecar" design.
Having said that, they too copy. I showed them pictures of what I was building one year at St Louis. Theirs did not have molding around every edge on the seats. The next year, at St Louis, I looked at their seats and they had full edge molding on all edges.
Joe Naylor is an asset to the forum and I'm sure his seats are as good as his other competitor. |

I've got several seats, one of which is from Joe Naylor's company.
Others will comment on construction, preference, etc. I'll just throw this opinion of mine out there. That is, when it comes to color, there are a ton of choices. But get black.
No, I'm not doing a slant on the "black-steels-sound-better" color thing. It's just that black works best on all stages, especially if you're doing gigs behind stars where you, as a sideman, are not supposed to stick out visually. The color also travels well without looking too beat up too fast. I got a red maroon one and just wish I had opted for black instead, like all my others

I have owned both and both are excellent seats with good sturdy build quality. For my body, which is heavier than it ought to be, I am more comfortable for longer times in the SteelSeat. Like stated above, it feels harder or firmer when you first sit down, but in the long haul it is more comfortable for me.
Your experience may be different. _________________ Charlie Powell |

Ive been using Steelers Choice for years and you won't find a better seat, or better people than Dan and his family
Having said that, Joe makes outstanding seats and has a wide variety of ideas and innovations. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

I second what Paddy said. Just got a new red sidecar from Dan and it is a work of art in looks and comfort! _________________ Rittenberry Prestige SD-12,Mullen G2 SD-12 ,Mullen PRP S-12 BMI S-12 V8 octal, BJS Bars, LiveSteelStrings,Steelers Choice Seat. |

I'll stand for Joe Naylor's Steel Seats. I just got one of his "slimline" models--compartments arranged for my own needs, and although I've never had the other seat mentioned, I cant imagine a more well-built or comfortable seat than this one! And Joe's great to work with as well.

I own one of Dan's, and have sat on Joe's.
I have but two reasons for not owning Joe's:
1) Dan and Joe appear to make them equally robust, and;
2) I see no need for 2 and I've had Dan's since 94.
I'd recommend sitting at each as they feel slightly different, but they're both excellent. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
