Would it make that much difference in a live situation? I have never used one, but I am looking at the Old World 1960 which is recommended by Henry Kaiser among others. Other people like the Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone.

Thanks

I've used one of my ancient DynaComps on occasion for a really nasty, rough sound. YMMV.

The Slide Rig by Origin Effects--dual compressors, built like a tank and sounds amazing!

This is my absolute favorite compressor pedal, I have two of them...
Sometimes in series for that Lowell squash.
I use it with my lap steels all the time.
