Topic: What was the first 45 rpm you bought and where and when? |

I still have most of the singles I bought when I was a teen.
My first one was "Misery/Ask Me Why" by the Beatles, I think it was in '65 from a man who set up jukeboxes in my hometown.

| To the best of my recollection, the first 45 I bought (i.e. not borrowed or stolen from my older sisters), was the Rolling Stones: Miss You/Far Away Eyes. In retrospect, that single had the Stones accused of going Disco, and simultaneoulsy has clearly caused consternation among country fans, as I've seen a few discussions on here about Ron Woods' steel playing. I suppose it is a good example of The Stones' penchant for pissing everyone off at the same time. |

Interesting question for people of a certain age!
It was either "Rama Lama Ding Dong" by The Edsels, or "Speedy Gonzalez" by Pat Boone. Musta been the early '60's, purchased in my hometown of Franklin, MA from a sort of jewelry store that also sold records and sheet music. |

"Blue Moon" by the Marcels. Spring 1961 from a record store in Birmingham, Michigan (suburbs of Detroit). I was 10.

Not positive, but I think it might have been 'He's a Rebel' by the Crystals. Again, not positive, but I think it was a Sam Goody's in downtown Pittsburgh.

I didn't buy it but I played my mom's 45 oof Frankie Laine's version of Jezabel over and over as an 8 year-old.

| My sister and I would pool our money and buy the latest hits...each of us would throw in 50cents. I think the first one we bought was in about 1957, but I dont recall which one it was...probably a Ricky Nelson one...she was a big fan of his and being my older sister, if she thought it was cool, so did I ! I still have all of them, and they included Sun 45s by Jerry Lee Lewis, a lot of Elvis. Ricky Nelson and Chuck Berry. What was cool were the covers of those 45s...a lot of them had a nice picture of the artist and of course the title of the song...great memories...she and I were just talking about that this week ! |

At 51 Im not sure, but it just might have been Hound Dog by Elvis Presley from Music Manor in downtown Englewood NJ sometime in the late 60's.
I eventually had a stack of them and one of these portable light blue plastic suitcase 45 players.
Also quite a few of these adapters for the real turntable at home.
I recall cutting out records from the back of cardboard cereal boxes, like the Jackson Five's ABC.
I had a number of 45's but I'll never forget my first 12" LP's, the Rolling Stones octagon-shaped Through the Past, Darkly. Then the Beatles Sgt. Peppers and later Jimi Hendrix's Smash Hits. Music just wasn't the same after those.  |

I don't remember what the title was, but the first 45 I bought was an Eddy Arnold record. I was a "Little" Roy Wiggins fan and bought all the Eddy Arnold records I could, to listen to Roy. I started out with 78 RPM's and then 45's whey they first came out.
Tells you I'm not "39" anymore.

I inherited my parents' 45s, which were plenty and taught me all I needed to know about Rock and Roll and Doo Wop, but the first 45 I purchased (or was purchased for me) was I Think I love You by the Partridge Family, followed by What's Going On by Marvin Gaye. I was 7 years old.
By the time I was 9, I developed an elaborate scheme with the local record shop where I would buy a few 45s (with stolen change) and then exchange them as scratched. What a juvenile delinquent I was, but I would do anything for music.
