I am always fantasizing about building a lap steel, I've thought about doing an 8 string eh-150 or a bigsby knockoff, but I love the look of frypans and they seem pretty straight forward to build. How do wooden ones sound? Is there enough material on them to get a decent tone and sustain? I've only played cast ones, which sounded amazing.

I had one built by Mike Dotson at Maricopa Guitars (and a Rick Aiello-made pickup) that was awesome.

Mike - I forgot about that video! That steel, and your playing, sounds great.
Jean - that is a beautiful steel. Running strings thru body makes for a really elegant and simple bridge assembly, love it.
Thanks y'all!

Good question....tone is likely in the ears and mind of the beholder. Different wood species etc.....too many variables..
