I am trying to build my first rack and have a question about pre amps. I am using a Mullens D10 pre RP and a Mullens SD10. So far I have a
Furman Power conditioner with 9 power inputs.
Behringer BTR2000 Tuner.
Lexicon Mx 200 Reverb/effects.
BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer.
Peavey Session 400 and/or Vegas 400.
DD3 Digital delay foot pedal.
Four questions: 1. Do I need a pre amp?
What Kind of Preamp?
What combination of rack equipment/effects are mostly used for Steel Guitar.
Need one with front instrument input and would accept this equipment.
would also like to use this in home studio.
If a Preamp is need, can someone please suggest some models that are decent and under $350.00? |

You don't need a preamp because you are using a Peavey amp which already has a preamp in it. Just plug what you have in and you are good to go. _________________ Bob |

Thanks Bob. This is the one thing that was boggling my mind. On more question, The tuner has a instrument input on the front and the Lexicon does not. Can I use the tuner as my steel plug in to access the lexicon and sonic maximizer? |

I second Bob. If you're running a combo amp, a rack is just extra gear to schlep. If you don't like the Peavey Reverb (and I don't blame you, they don't impress me much), I'd get a two or three piece rack and run the tuner and the Lexicon. Actually, I'd find a stomp box reverb and use my phone's tuner. If you're new to steel, you DO NOT want a rack tuner. You'll spend way too much time playing to the lights rather than developing your ears.
(That said, I run a rack when I play through anything other than my Twin, since I like the Lexicon MPX100 better than any reverb except the Twin. The only thing in the rack is the Lexicon) _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |

Jesse,
Use the inputs and outputs in the back of the lexicon. Use the left (mono) ones. _________________ Bob |
