This was a private performance in a Virginia music store and this video hasn't been seen until its appearance on YouTube.
Joe was such a master in many ways, but the way he utilized harmony and voice leading, and to do it all spontaneously...not many guitarists as deep as piano players, but Joe was one of the very few. I think Joe had his 10,000 hours in by the time he was 16.

Can't watch it all right now, but what I saw was great, thanks Mike. I liked the following comment on YouTube regarding the video:
Quote: |
Whenever I watch a virtuoso like Joe Pass, it makes me feel as though I play by pounding on my guitar with a club. |

an amazingly gifted and talented man..ICON comes to mind. I studied from one of his video series and I can honestly say that I have been executing the first 30 min of that video for the last 15 years ! I hate to think what would happen if I went back and reviewed the last 30 min ! ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

Joe was an amazing musician. He was the first guy to incorporate walking bass lines in his chord melody playing. Even though he played bebop lines his time feel was kind of swing era-based which gave his lines a kind of airiness somehow. His dad made him practice 8-10 hours a day as a child. It paid off. I remember one story in his pre-synanon, heroin days that Joe told about walking up the beach after pawning his guitar looking for someone with a guitar because he knew that if he found one, he'd astound everyone and probably get a meal and a place to stay. _________________ Steel Guitar Books!
