I'm wondering if this might be a profitable venture for some of the pro steel techs out there?
Let's say you're having a problem with your steel that you can't figure out. You could send it to the manufacturer, assuming they are in business and willing. You may have a situation where only a steel tech can help. You maybe out at least $200, In shipping alone, and risk damaging your axe in shipment. Maybe your steel manufacturer is no longer working on steels, or is no longer in business. Maybe you can't afford to be without your steel for who knows how long, or need some quick help, like on the road?
It may be worth it for both parties to arrange a skype session, or iPhone FaceTime , or any kind of way to receive tech support in exchange for a fee.
We may get stumped on a problem that we need some help with. Other technologies offer tech support to users. It's not reasonable to expect someone to be available on minimal notice to offer technical support service without compensation, but if someone had established themselves as this type of resource, it may be a needed service, and a potential revenue stream to the guys that we rely on. If I was struggling on the road or right before a gig with a problem, and someone could see my steel and walk me through a solution, I'd see that as a valuable service.
Anybody agree ? I'd love to hear what some of our pro steel techs think. |

Just chiming in here to let you know that this service indeed IS available for pushpull guitars: Clem Schmitz has been offering this possibility for almost a year and a half now. As many of you know, Clem is a true expert when it comes to pushpulls. He used to do all work on Mike Johnson's red Emmons as well as provide excellent service to other professionals in Nashville when residing there. Now, back in Minneapolis,Mn, he's still inventing stuff for the pp and does work on pushpulls sent or brought to him. Clem doesn't blow his own trumpet, he's a humble, but yet straightforward guy. As good as they come!
Now, what can be achieved over Skype? Well, the combo Skype, Clem, his booklet and Dvd's have made me end up with good, playable guitars, as well as knowledge of the mechanics of the pp.
If you need help with the functionality of your pp, don't hesitate to send him an email on freedomsauce at comcast.net (replace 'at' with @) |

What Sven said! And Clem is not limited to only working on pushpulls. He is a great all-around steel guru. When I spoke to him last week he had just finished fixing a couple of ShoBuds. |
